You’ve probably seen those shows on TV where they talk about making your bedroom an oasis, a place where you can come back and relax, sleep, and just be comfortable. I know I have, and I’ve gathered a few tips on making your bedroom more comfortable from watching TV and my own experience. So if you’re looking for ways to make your bedroom more comfortable, you’ve come to the right place. Grab a snack, sit back, and read your way to a comfortable bedroom.
6 Ways to Create a Comfortable Bedroom
#1 – Get a good mattress.
First and foremost, you want to make sure your bed itself is comfortable and that starts with a great mattress. We used a Serta Perfect Sleeper in this bedroom, and it’s one of the softest and most comfortable mattresses I’ve ever tried. So it’s probably perfect that Serta is currently running a promotion to make comfort a priority in your life, starting with a Comfort for Life promotion where you have the chance to win all sorts of prizes like new sheets, pillows, pet beds, and even Serta Comfort For Life – a brand new bedroom makeover and a new Serta mattress every 5-7 years!
To participate in the Comfort for Life program, all you need to do is post a selfie of you with a Serta mattress (either in your home or in a store) and your best tip for making life more comfortable in the caption on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using the hashtag #SertaComfortSutra and #Entry anytime between August 26th and September 6th. I tried to be cheeky with my selfie and failed miserably; the mattress was just too comfortable and all I really wanted to do was sleep.
Make sure to check out SertaComfortSutra.com for more details on the promotion along with more about the new ComfortSutra content series full of hilarious tips and tricks, cheeky .gifs, and more! Serta is even partnering with comedian and The REAL co-host Loni Love to announce the series, so you know it’s going to be entertaining and tons of fun!
#2 – Get good linens.
You’ve got your mattress, now it’s time to layer it with good linens. Linens, blankets, and pillows really. Find ones that you love that make you want to snuggle into bed and go to sleep. Nothing itchy, nothing frilly, and definitely nothing that’s going to be too hot and suffocating. It’s all about comfort so find something comfortable.
#3 – Declutter.
I don’t know what it is in our brains but I swear clutter = stress, at least for me. When I walk into a room and there’s stuff everywhere, it automatically sends my brain into a frenzy. You can keep your clutter other places in the house, but get it out of your bedroom. The bedroom is for sleeping, relaxing, and other things. None of which require clutter.
#4 – Switch out photos for art.
This is just my personal taste, but I prefer to not have any personal family photos hanging in our bedroom. I prefer artwork rather than people so when I’m trying to sleep or wake up in the middle of the night, there aren’t people looking back at me. And art has the calming, soothing effect you want for your bedroom. Or if you’d prefer, just take everything off the walls altogether and simplify your room.
#5 – Slip into something more comfortable.
And I’m not talking about sweat pants or yoga pants. This is something I read in Present Over Perfect, and I loved it. Women tend to think that yoga pants are something you do everything in – take kids to school, grocery shop, and sleep. Ditch the yoga pants and buy some actual pajamas then slip into them before you get into bed. Not only will you be more comfortable, your body will know that by putting on your PJs, that it’s time to wind down and get some sleep. These are the ones I’ve been eyeing.
#6 – Set the mood.
One of the best things we’ve done in our bedroom is to add blackout shades. We mainly did it because there was big streetlight right outside our window, but we both sleep so much better when the room is actually dark. Just beware that you’ll definitely want to set an alarm because with blackout shades, you can sleep pretty much forever. Ours have definitely allowed both my husband and I to get more sound sleep, which is essential when you’re not sleeping enough in the first place.
