Sometimes you just need a little help to get started. Last year was a year of survival for me, one that is finally over and that I’m ready to leave far behind. Between working through depression, stressful responsibilities, trying to grow my business, tons of friends moving away, and trying to figure out what’s next in our life – there was just too much going on. This year is going to be different starting right now and I knew I’d need a little help to make the changes I need to make for it to actually be different.
This past week I signed up through Life Reimagined® to do my first ever call with a life coach. I’ve had friends who have met with life coaches before and had a lot of success, so I figured why not? It can’t hurt to have someone help point me in the right direction, to help me focus my efforts in the right place. The first thing I did when I signed up through Life Reimagined was to go through a card sorting activity, called my LifeMap to develop my own canvas, basically what I really want in life based on my honest answers. Here’s what my life canvas looks like. The card sorting was fun, kind of like a game (and you all know I love games), but to be honest, I had a really hard time narrowing some of the options down to get to 3 of the most important.
After filling out my canvas, the next thing I did was to schedule a call with one of the various life coaches available through the Life Reimagined program. There were quite a few different coaches I was interested in meeting with but finally settled on a woman whose expertise seemed to be in the area I need the most help with – work/life balance. Setting up a call was simple as was the call itself. When my appointment came, I hopped onto an online webinar and we chatted for an hour about what was going on in my life, why I’d scheduled the appointment in the first place, and some simple steps I could take to start making the desired changes in my life. She was friendly, helpful, and encouraging, all of the things I’d imagine a life coach to be. And being able to do it online was perfect because I fit the call in during an afternoon naptime without having to get a sitter!
One of the final things we did during the call was to write down my main areas of focus (all online and together over webinar, which was awesome) and then talk through steps that I can take to get there. If anyone is looking for some advice or assistance on making changes, finding direction, or even just a sounding board, LifeReimagined is a good choice. You can find more details and sign up here.
