Last week I hosted a party sponsored by Viva® Brand for a bunch of my blogger friends. Prior to hosting this party, I kicked off my own 7-Day Switch-Up with Viva® Vantage® to try out the Viva® Towels before the party. I’ll be honest, I’d never tried or even heard of Viva® Vantage® paper towels before. And now after switching over to Viva® Vantage® from my regular brand for the 7-Day-Switch-Up, I’ll never go back. I use paper towels all the time for my parties and there is a HUGE difference between my old brand and Viva® Towels.
One of the biggest differences I noticed was that the Viva® Towels are super stretchy-strong. I have a two-year-old who likes to make messes and normally the paper towels I use just fall apart. The Viva® Towels held together for pretty much every mess he made over my seven days. It’s no wonder the Viva® Towels were recently named one of the top products of 2015.
Viva® Vantage® claims to be the only lint-free paper towels out there. My husband and I were both skeptical when we started the 7-Day-Switch-Up but you guys they really are lint-free. I almost never use glass plates in my parties because you always end up with the little pieces of lint and fuzz on them after drying them, not so with Viva® Vantage®. I switched it up from my regular paper or white plates specifically so my guests could see how awesome the paper towels worked for cleaning glass.
Using glass dishes and vases was just one of the few ways I switched things up for this party. Try one of these five great switches for your next party:
Setup a Make Your Own Bar
Switch things up and have your guests serve themselves instead of you preparing all of the food. I cut up some fruit, poured some sauces and toppings into jars, and made crepes. And p.s., when you’re cutting anything, put a damp Viva® Towel under your cutting board to keep it from moving around! Then instead of putting them together myself, I just put them out on pretty plates and let guests choose their own fillings and toppings.
Often we just put out a lot of food all at the same height on a table. The table gets crowded, looks messy, and people tend to eat less because things are hard to get to. At your next party, switch things up and add vertical height to your table like I did with the cake stands and stacked baskets with pastries inside. My inspiration for this party was really to bring to life a French bakery and adding in the layered baskets and fresh flowers really helped me achieve the feeling of going to a bakery and being overwhelmed by all of the choices on the shelves behind the pastry case.
Let Others Help
Just because you’re hosting the party doesn’t mean you have to do everything. Switch things up by asking guests to help prepare the last-minute food or by asking guests to wash their own dishes when they’re done instead of just stacking them wherever they can find space. I had guests help me wash berries and fruit for the crepe bar, using the stretchy-strong Viva® Towels to rinse the fruit instead of a colander, so I could do it all right before the party. And after they were finished eating, I asked guests to wash their own glasses and plates after they were done using the Viva® Towels (remember their awesome lint-free qualities!!), which made my cleanup after the party so much easier!
Skip the Group Activities
I know, I know, this goes completely against my typical “let’s play tons of party games,” party motto BUT for a party that is meant to be all about mingling, meeting new people, and just getting a chance to sit down and talk, active and crazy party games aren’t the best. Switch it up and plan activities that allow guests to eat your yummy food, mingle with other guests, and have a relaxing night. Instead of planning crazy party games, I provided glasses and wine glass paint pens for guests to decorate and setup a small photo booth area for taking pictures with friends and fun props. By doing two activities in smaller groups, it allowed guests a chance to really talk to each other. Definitely a plus when you’re meeting for the first time. Save yourself time by having your guests wash their own glasses with Viva® towels AND writing their own photo booth captions. You’ll be amazed by the creative ideas they’ll come up with.
Choose Your Favorite Recipes
And buy the rest. Seriously, don’t try to make everything. You can check out the great recipes I used for my crepe bar below:
- Basic sweet crepes
- Fresh blackberry sauce (I just substituted blackberries for the raspberries)
- Easy whipped cream
Everything else I bought from my local grocery store to fit the French bakery theme. It was so much easier and honestly their eclairs and macrons probably were a million times better than if I made them myself. One other fun tip – as you’re pouring sauces, jams, and toppings into bowls try to keep the sides clean and free to make for a prettier food table. But if you’re like me and can’t seem to pour anything without getting stuff all over, fold a Viva® Vantage® paper towel so you can get just the corner and use that corner to wipe off the mess inside the bowl.
And last but not least, switch up your party favors
When you hear party favors, you typically think food or cheap little prizes. If you’re going to do party favors, think about something that really fits your theme and something that people will want, not just throw away as soon as they get home. For my party, everyone received a Viva® Brand apron, a roll of ®Viva Towels, and a coaster – three things I can guarantee almost every adult who likes to cook has used at some point. And even if you don’t like to cook, check out all of these other great ways you can use Viva® Towels in your home:
- Cleaning up makeup or other messes from your bathroom sink
- Cleaning windows, mirrors, vases, and other glass you may have in your house
- Attaching paper towels to kids’ feet and letting them “skate” around your hardware floor to clean it up
- Putting a paper towel under a quilting square to keep it from moving
- Wiping kids’ faces, hands, and body parts instead of using a traditional wipe
- Keep lettuce fresh longer by wrapping a paper towel around the head of lettuce to soak up extra moisture.
- Use to scrub vegetables like potatoes mushrooms
- Clean your stovetop using the strentchy-strength cleaning power of the paper towels
