It’s been a while since I’ve shared one of the handouts that I made for the young women I teach each Sunday at church. The last one was my Christ aid kits, well that and my faith cookies, but those weren’t really handouts.
This week I taught a lesson from the Come Follow Me program on ways to make prayer more meaningful and really wanted to give the girls a handout that would help them remember and implement the five ways we talked about while they were saying prayers throughout the week. This prayer lesson handout is one of my favorite young women handouts I’ve made yet. Not familiar with the Come Follow Me program? You can learn more at LDS.org.
With that in mind, I decided to make the girls candygrams with the five ways we talked about, written in a cute candygram way. So things like “Find joy in praying about others,” and “praying for a way to act, not just asking.”
At the end of the lesson, I gave them their candygrams and told them that the candy wasn’t just for eating, that they should only eat the candy after they had applied that principle to their prayers that week, kind of like a candy checklist. I’ll let you know on Sunday whether or not the girls actually followed my rules or not, but regardless, I thought they turned out really cute and wanted to share in case anyone needed an idea.
I’ve created a free printable version for you that’s already designed to fit the appropriate types of candy. Well, actually I’ve created two versions of the printable. The first just has blank spaces where you can tape the candy in, the second has the actual word there that you can tape the candy over so that when they (hopefully) remove the candy, they’ll still have a handout with the list of five ways.

There were so many great lesson topics to choose from this month that I had a really hard time picking just a few to teach. Which lessons are you teaching?

Hi Britni,
I just subscribed, I am 66 yrs old and I have never been in YW so I am so not comfortable because I don’t have experience. I only had boys so I have never had experience with girls. The lessons are not as hard but activities are. I thank you so much for sharing. Please
keep the cute and clever ideas coming.
Thanks so much
Esther

I love your idea. It is fun but has substance. I am using it for a United Methodist Women’s devotional. I got most of the candy at the after-Halloween sales this afternoon. But I’m wondering about the chews. What are they called and where did you find them? Thanks for posting just what I was looking for.
BritniV says
They’re Tootsie Roll fruit chews, normally can just find them at regular grocery stores.

Thank you!

This is even a good idea for fhe (family home evening) especially with younger children.

This is so cute! Since we moved I am not in Young Women anymore, and I miss them! I was with them for almost three years, so it’s weird going to church and sitting in Relief Society again. Hopefully I’ll get back in there one day so I can make cute things like you!
