Thanks to Fleischmann’s Yeast for giving me an excuse to make pizza for dinner again. While I may have been compensated for this post, all content and opinions are 100% honest and my own. This really is my family’s favorite pizza, and I would really eat pizza every night for the rest of my life.
If there was one meal that I could eat every day for the rest of my life, it would be pizza. I love how versatile pizza is and how everyone can make it their own perfect meal just by changing the toppings. Ten years ago I never would’ve considered eating a pizza with artichokes and prosciutto but now it’s our family’s favorite. This is seriously what I would consider the best pizza recipe.
One of my favorite things about pizza is that it’s so much fun to make together as a family. Richie rolls out the dough and then we take turns putting on toppings. And soon enough K will be able to actually get in and start helping as well. Can you guess whose side is whose?
A study issued by the Official Journal of the Academy of Pediatrics says that children who eat dinner with their family five times a week have lower risk of developing poor eating habits, of being overweight, and tend to be better academically than their peers who eat alone or away from home. I don’t know about you, but I want K to fall into that “children who eat dinner with their family five times a week” category. Pizza is the perfect family night meal to make and eat with your kids. K may not eat much these days, but he loved this pizza. And I love eating dinner with my family.
Here’s how we make pizza in our house. It’s kind of an art to getting something this yummy.
First off, make your dough. I used this recipe. It all starts with a packet of Fleischmann’s Pizza Crust Yeast. This stuff is awesome and works so fast that you don’t even have to wait for the dough to rise, which means dinner gets to the table super fast. And in my house with two hungry boys, dinner has to get to the table fast.
In addition to the yeast, you’ll need some flour, sugar, salt, oil, water, and then your favorite toppings.
Follow these instructions to make your dough. I used my mixer to make it but you can easily do it by hand as well. Once your dough is done, roll it out and put the crust on your favorite pizza baking dish. We love our baking stone, but it’ll still be good if you use a normal pizza baking dish instead.
Now for our pizza baking secrets. My husband can’t eat tomato sauce, so we always do an olive oil and garlic base for our “sauce,” but before we put on the sauce, we use a fork to poke holes all around the crust. This helps to prevent air bubbles so you have a crust that bakes evenly all the way around. And once the crust is baked, you’ll have no idea those fork holes were ever even there. The dough is pretty magical like that.
After you’ve forked the crust, spread some olive oil over the crust and then sprinkle lightly with garlic powder.
Now another secret, add some cheese on top of the olive oil. That little layer of cheese makes the pizza so much better. After the cheese, add on all of your favorite toppings. My favorite combination is cheese, artichokes, olives, prosciutto, capers, and more cheese on top. The salty flavors of the capers and olives just work perfectly with the artichokes and cheese. And my husband does the same plus some roasted red peppers and fresh basil. That’s the beauty of pizza; you can each have your own all in one big pizza.
And then you bake it at 475 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until the crust seems done. Doesn’t this just look amazing? Slice it up and share it with your family for a perfect family dinner.
