Gather your supplies. You will need FrogTape®, scissors, a large paint brush, paint, and a large piece of fabric. I used washable paint so that I can use the backdrop for my party and then wash it to reuse for something else later. I also recommend either doing this outside in an area you can wash down or with a tarp or newspaper underneath. And wear clothes that can get paint on them.
Use the FrogTape® to tape out letters in the middle of the fabric. Make sure that where your letters intersect such as on the S or H that the ends of the tape meet up exactly.
Pour a good amount of one color of paint on your paintbrush. You want it to be a big blob of paint so that it will splatter nicely.
Splatter the paint from the paintbrush to the piece of fabric. There are numerous ways you can do this. To get the big platters of paint, I moved the brush back and forth from side to side to let the paint just drip off in large splatters.
Once I had some large paint splatters and the paint had soaked into the brush nicely, I flicked my wrist to flick paint on to the fabric, creating the smaller paint spots and splatters. Continue splattering paint until you’ve reached your desired amount of splatters on the fabric. Once you’re done with the first color, rinse and dry your brush the best you can. If you still have water in the brush, it can cause the paint to be watery and not as vivid.
After your brush is dry, choose another color and repeat until you’ve added all of the colors that you want. Let the paint dry.
Once the paint is completely dry, gently peel the FrogTape® letters from the fabric and admire your beautiful new paint splatter backdrop. Look how crisp those letters turned out.
I love using FrogTape® for this project because it has this awesome PaintBlock® Technology that creates a perfect seal with the fabric preventing paint bleed. For a project where you’re splattering paint every which way, you definitely want seal to help you get nice crisp paint lines every time. I’ve tried various other painter’s tapes and FrogTape® is by far the best when it comes to sealing and getting crisp lines.
