Over the past year, I’ve had the chance to test-drive multiple Kia Sorentos, both the 2016 and 2017 ones. I even received a complimentary one to use for my trip to Ocala earlier this year for this post. And every time I come home and tell my husband that next time we buy a car, a Kia Sorento has to be on our short list. There are so many awesome Kia Sorento features that I miss every time I go back to my actual car, ones that make it a car definitely worth considering next time you’re buying a new car.
I’ve always said that I feel like the Kia Sorento was designed for moms. It’s not only the car I feel safest in, it’s the car I feel like I could drive across the country with my family and not have to worry about anything because the Sorento takes care of it for me. So that being said, let’s get into my favorite Kia Sorento features.
Kia Sorento Features
#1 – Safety first features in the Kia Sorento
I mentioned it before but I feel safer in the Kia Sorento than any other car I’ve driven in the past few months and that’s saying a lot since I’ve driven quite a few cars on my travels. My favorite safety features in the Kia Sorento are the lights on the sideview mirrors that go on when someone is in the lane next to you (no more blind spot!), the vibration and noise when you cross over your line into another lane (without a blinker), and the caution lights that tell you not to turn or change lanes if someone is near you and you turn on your blinker. It makes the fast Texas highways so much easier to navigate.
Oh and I can’t forget to mention the awesome Kia Sorento parking assist features. Not only does it have a backup camera, it has cameras that show you all around the sides of your car as well when you’re backing up and parking. So much nicer than having to make someone get out of the car to make sure you don’t hit someone in that tight parallel parking spot.
#2 – Key Free Unlock and Start
How many times have you gotten to your car and realized that you have your keys but don’t know where they are in your bag? The Kia Sorento is awesome because if the keys are near the car, it’ll allow you to push a button on the door to unlock them without having keys in hand. And then as long as the keys are close, same thing with starting the engine. No more digging in your bag for five minutes while it’s raining outside or your carrying a 30-pound toddler who’s kicking and screaming. Just walk up to the car, touch the button, and voila you’re in!
#3 – Power in the Kia Sorento
I’m not talking about horse power, I’m talking about actual power – like electricity. Not only are there the standard USB posts, auxiliary slots, and a cigarette lighter, there is also an actual outlet built into the Kia Sorento right in the middle console. If you’ve ever forgotten to charge your camera battery or laptop or heaven forbid the kid’s DVD player, you’ll know how awesome it is to have an actual outlet built into the car. No more meltdowns when the battery dies or having to buy a completely separate car charging kit because you can charge everything in the car. It’s pretty awesome.
#4 – Options, options, and more options
One of the main reasons that we’re looking at purchasing a Kia Sorento for our next car is because the 2017 model actually has both a five-seat and a seven-seat option available. I’ve never been a huge fan of large SUVs or mini-vans because I’m a petite person and just can’t see around the big cars, so having a seven-seat option in a smaller crossover is a perfect compromise for our family. I love the idea of being able to put the back row down when I need the storage and put it up when I have family in town or when my son wants to take a friend with us to the drive-in movie theater. Just having the option is great. And if you don’t have tiny people to fit into the back row, no problem because the middle row seats slide to add legroom for the back.
The Kia Sorento also comes with a ton of other great options like a panoramic sunroof and their built-in navigation and sound system that hooks up right to your phone via Bluetooth or an aux jack. It made driving around in a new place so much easier when I could just type it into the navigation and go.
#5 – It’s comfortable.
I know this isn’t really a feature, but it’s worth talking about because driving the Kia Sorento around Ocala last month made me realize how comfortable the car really is. There are about a million ways to adjust the driver’s seat to make it the right height, incline, and depth for each individual driver. And the leather itself is comfy comfy. Definitely a car I’d be comfortable driving on a day trip with your girl friends or on a week-long road trip with the family.
