My new office is the perfect example of incorporating a bright pop of color with modern neutrals to create a gorgeous space that someone will want to spend time working in. If you’re looking for easy ways to add a pop of color to a boring office, keep reading because these are some of the most colorful home office ideas around!
One of most exciting things about our new home in Texas is that I get my very own office. For the past three years, I’ve been working from the couch in our living room and photographing things from a tiny corner of our kitchen.
And to be honest, I spent more time setting up and taking down my equipment than I did actually working. So when we started looking for new houses in Texas, I told my husband that I needed two rooms – one room for all of my making/creating and storage and one room that is literally just a studio where I can work on my computer and take photos and videos. A place where I can actually leave things up rather than take them down after every shoot.
And the house we bought? I have three rooms! Well, sort of. I have one studio that’s just my studio for office work + photography, I have a storage closet for all my photography props, and I have a third room upstairs that’s for creating and making stuff. It’s pretty much the most amazing thing ever.
I haven’t even touched my craft room yet, but the desk corner of my studio is completely done. And I love it!
Colorful Home Office Ideas
The first thing I bought for my office was the Cost Plus World Market Josephine Desk in white. After having all dark furniture in our last house, I’ve wanted a white desk forever, and the Josephine Desk has the perfect combination of modern and functional that I was looking for. And plus, it’ll double as the perfect white party table whenever I need it!
If you hadn’t noticed yet, I’m not really a neutral kind of girl. I love me some color. And after adding a white desk to my dark hardwood floors, this room needed some color. I dragged my husband to Cost Plus World Market with me to pick up the desk and watch my 3-year-old while I wandered around the store trying to figure out how to add that perfect pop of color.
And then I saw it. This chair. You guys, this Swirl Delani Accent Chair is amazing. It’s colorful, comfortable, and the perfect height for my new Josephine Desk. It all started with this chair.
And then continued to ripple out into the rest of the Cost Plus World Market nomad collection that goes with the chair. Like the fuschia ikat velvet pillow that makes the chair even more comfortable, if that’s even possible. And a striped cotton Chindi area rug that fits perfectly underneath my desk and chair.
I love being able to spread out my notebooks, lists, and calendars to brainstorm ideas on my desk, so I knew that I wanted to keep my desk pretty clear of any clutter rather than keeping all of my office supplies on my desk.
But storage in an office is a must, so I picked up a wire rack and filled it with handmade gift bags and boxes wrapped with Ikat handmade wrapping paper to keep all of my extra supplies like paper, labels, ink, etc.
I saved the space on my desk for a glass with colorful pens, my computer, my planner, and two inspirational handmade journals to jot down notes and ideas. Oh and a nice big open area where my TV is going to go, so I can binge watch the entire season of Gilmore Girls before the new episodes come out in November.
On the walls above my desk is more storage, inspirational quotes, posters, and a create banner I made using this whatever party banner set. I found these Ikat tea tins that I love and decided to put them up on my shelf to store the things I’ll use less often like stamps, jump drives, and cords I don’t use every day. I love how they match the gift bags and tie everything together.
And finally on the other wall above my desk, I convinced my husband to put another hole in the wall for a clipboard that will eventually hold my monthly calendar and two magnet strips that I covered with these colorful magnetic spice containers and other office supplies. I love how pretty the spice containers look and how well they fit things like washi tape (for my planner), mini rainbow clothespins, and paper clips.
And below that, I put up these pretty jumbo paper clips (that I use in my planner) and other miscellaneous office supplies that have some sort of metal piece. The magnetic strips may be my favorite part of the room. Or maybe the chair, no definitely the chair.
