Happy New Year everyone! With the new year comes a new slate of incredible movies. I actually just watched my first movie of the year, The Greatest Showman, yesterday, which I guess is technically a 2017 movie but it was incredible. I’m already planning out when I can go see it again.
So many awesome movies coming out in 2018! I’ll be putting together my must-see movies of the year post shortly but for now because I’m a huge Marvel fan, let’s talk about Marvel Studios’ newest addition – Black Panther. Here’s the newest video for the movie in case you haven’t been watching every video you could get your hands on like I do.
If you don’t remember, Black Panther’s character was first introduced in Captain America: Civil War. And really as far as I know, that’s the only Marvel movie you need to watch before Black Panther to see where he came from.
But it never hurts to watch all of the movies in the MCU again so if you have time, go for it!
Black Panther Synopsis
Marvel Studios’ BLACK PANTHER follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk.
Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
Black Panther his theaters everywhere on February 16th.
4 Reasons to See Black Panther
There are so many reasons to see Black Panther, but I’m going to focus on four main ones that can pretty much guarantee that it’ll be an amazing movie.
#1 – It’s a Marvel Movie
Other than a few little missteps with things like Thor: The Dark World and the weird Ego storyline in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Marvel has been hitting movies out of the park for the past ten years. And their most recent movie, Thor: Ragnarok was one of my favorite Marvel movies ever! If you’re a Marvel fan, you need to see Black Panther. And if you’re not, then skip this reason and look at #2, #3, and #4.
#2 – Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan
I’m a huge fan of both of these men. I fell in love with Michael B. Jordan back in his Parenthood days and pretty much loved everything he’s done since. I’m excited to see him take on a different type of role in Black Panther although I’m a bit concerned about the hair choice. But Thor: Ragnarok proved that a change in hair can be a game-changer!
Not sure where to even start on Chadwick Boseman. I don’t even actually remember where he came from, it was like all the sudden he was this bigtime actor and just fantastic. Loved him in Marshall and of course Civil War. I just can’t imagine him being anything but amazing.
#3 – A New Setting
We’ve seen a lot of Marvel movies set in New York City. We’ve seen a lot of movies set on Asgard. And we’ve seen a lot of movies set all over the galaxy. But this will be the first Marvel movie that’s set completely in the African nation of Wakanda. After watching the trailers and seeing various photos, I can’t wait to see how they brought Wakanda to life. It’s just so different from what we’ve seen before, and I’m ready for that change.
#4 – Black Panther Gives More Representation to African Americans
I’m not going to try and write about this one. Instead, check out this amazing post on A Worthey Read from my friend Tatanisha about why representation matters and why it’s such a big deal that Black Panther is happening.
