One of my favorite all-time snacks is trail mix. One of the things I love most about it is that honestly you can combine anything you want and still call it trail mix. So today I’m sharing my most recent creation, my All-American (red, white, and blue) trail mix that I made for my Captain America party. This would also be a fantastic party snack for a 4th of July party, Memorial Day party, or really anytime you’re just feeling a little patriotic.
Whoever decided to put M&Ms into trail mix first was brilliant. The little bit of sweetness combined with everything else is honestly prefect, although I swear most store-bought trail mixes have a huge imbalance of too many nuts to too few M&Ms. And K has already learned that the bright colored things are the ones to pick out so by the time I get any, the M&Ms are all gone. So this trail mix is loaded with just as many M&Ms as anything else.
For the trail mix, I just mixed up 1/2 cup of each of of the following:
- dried cranberries
- yogurt covered raisins
- dried blueberries
- mini marshmallows
- red and blue M&Ms.
I made this specifically for a group of toddlers so decided to skip the nuts that are so typical of trail mixes so we didn’t end up with any choking issues. I actually liked it without the nuts, but if you think it’s missing a crunch, feel free to add a 1/2 cup of peanuts or almonds as well. Mix it all up and snack away!
