This fun printable Thanksgiving this or that game will have people choosing between two Thanksgiving this or that questions and trying to guess the match the majority to win! The fun doesn’t stop there because even if you get the most matches, you still have to roll your way to victory! It’s fun for all ages, making it a great Thanksgiving game for the entire family!

This or That Game for Thanskgiving

I love taking those this or that quizzes out there and thought it’d be fun to turn some Thanksgiving this or that questions into one of the best Thanksgiving games for your whole family to play together!

If you’ve used our Thanksgiving would you rather questions in the past, this game is a similar concept where everyone has to choose one of two Thanksgiving options. Instead of being outrageous would you rather scenarios though, they’re legit options that you have to choose between – like white or dark meat, apple or pumpkin pie.

But don’t choose too quickly because you’re not trying to go with what you actually want, like in our Thanksgiving wishes game you’re trying to match what the majority is going to vote! It’s trickier than it sounds, but in a good way!

If you don’t match all of the answers, don’t worry – you’re still in the game because there’s a twist at the end where anyone can still win! It’s why it’s so fun for anyone, even the youngest kiddos who didn’t match too many majorities can still win!

Who Will Love This Game

If you want a game that’s quick to setup, easy to learn (and play), and fun for all ages – you’ll love this game! I know my family did when we played it for our family Thanksgiving celebration! It’s also great for large groups – just make sure you have enough dice and cards for everyone!

Supplies & Setup

With all the other work there is to do on Thanksgiving (like making mashed potatoes and homemade crescent rolls), this is the perfect game because it’s simple to setup and play!

All you need is:

  • Thanksgiving this or that questions – download them at the bottom of this post or get them in my shop here
  • This or that cards – you’ll need one this or that card for everyone playing, these are also included in the download in this post
  • Dice – you’ll need a bunch of dice. I like this pack because it comes with 50 dice and it’s very affordable, I use it all the time for things like our get a turkey game!
  • Prizes – totally optional, but I always love to have prizes for the winner! You can do something Thanksgiving themed or something universal like a gift card!
Thanksgiving this or that questions with dice

Once you have all your supplies, it’s time to setup your game.

  1. Choose ten of the Thanksgiving this or that questions you want to ask for the game. (If you want to do more, I recommend doing another round where you start over.)
  2. Have everyone sit around a table or on the floor so you have somewhere to roll the dice on.
  3. Give everyone a this card and a that card.
  4. Set the pile of dice in the center of the circle where everyone can reach them.

How to play the This or That Game

If you’ve ever taken a this or that quiz or asked this or that questions, the foundation for the game is similar to that – just choosing between two decent options!

But that’s where the similarities end! This game uses Thanksgiving this or that questions and turns it into a game that’s fun, competitive, and sometimes hilarious!

1 – Ask the Thanksgiving This or That Questions

  1. Ask the first of your Thanksgiving this or that questions.
  2. Give everyone about ten seconds to think, then count to three and on three, everyone has to show their choice.
  3. Anyone who matches the majority answered takes a die from the pile in the center and puts it in front of them.
  4. Ask questions 2-10 doing the same thing explained above for every question so at the end of the questions, someone may end up with 10 dice in front of them while others may end up with just one or even zero.

What if there is no majority?

If your votes end in a majority, choose one person from the this team and one person from the that team to do a roll off. Each person rolls a die and whichever one rolls the higher number wins it for their team. So if this rolls the higher number, everyone on the this team would win the majority for that question and take a die.

2 – roll for the win

Once you’ve asked all of your questions, it’s time for the most fun part of this game – rolling to see who wins!

Have everyone roll all of the dice that they’ve earned at once. Add up all of the numbers on the dice you rolled and that’s your total score for the game.

The person who has the highest points at the end of the game/round wins! It’s fun because if you roll high numbers, you could beat someone who answered way more questions correct than you did!

What if there is a tie?

If two people have the same total after adding up all of their dice, have them do a roll off. The people that are tied should roll just one die – whoever rolls the highest wins!

    Alternate Ending Option

If you don’t like the lucky roller ending or don’t want to do the dice at all, you could always just use pennies or some other markers and the first person to get 10 questions correct wins the game!

We’ve played it both ways and prefer the dice rolling at the end, but you can do whatever makes the most sense for your group!

And of course, you could always just ask the Thanksgiving this or that questions if you really wanted to as well! We just like to turn all of our Thanksgiving activities into games!

    Helpful Game Tips

Make sure that everyone knows that they are matching the majority, not just answering what they actually prefer before the game. It’s an important part of the game and many people miss it in the instructions!

If you want to make it more interactive, you can cut up the this or that questions and put them into a bowl. Then pass the bowl around and switch off who reads the this or that questions to the group!

Let people make up their own Thanksgiving this or that questions – game is over after everyone has made up one to play!

Make sure everyone understands that the first choice in every statement is your THIS option and the second one is THAT – it can be helpful to reinforce that as you go if you’re the reader.

If you don’t want to play the game and would prefer to just have a list of questions, here are the this or that questions included in this game!
