If you hadn’t noticed already, I’ve made some major changes to my blog in the past week. New logo, new website design, new layout, and even a brand new name. If this is your first time here, then welcome!
I know the name change isn’t significant, not like when my good friend Cori rebranded to Hey, Let’s Make Stuff from Let’s Eat, Grandpa or when Rebecca rebranded from Living Better Together to Sugar & Soul. Those are major name changes, and mine is just one simple word.
But here’s the deal, for me it’s more than just one simple word. When I first chose the blog name Play. Party. Pin. back in 2013 when I started my blog, I’d originally planned to do something similar to Made From Pinterest where I would try out things from Pinterest and review them, so pin fit. And honestly, I wasn’t serious about blogging and the alliteration was simple and trendy (because everyone was obsessed with Pinterest), and I just went for it.
And I’ve hated the name ever since.
Well, not all of my name. I’ve hated the pin part of my name. Every time in the past when I’ve told people my name I’ve kind of slurred the last portion because having pin in my name really made no sense. And I was a little embarrassed about it, so I just pretended it didn’t exist.
I knew I didn’t want to change my entire name because well I love the first half and it’s so me. Over the last year or so I’ve been trying to come up with a P word to replace pin that both sounded okay and made sense with my brand, who I am, and what I want to write about. Because I love to travel so much, I almost went with Play. Party. Pack. but it just didn’t roll off the tongue as easily as Play. Party. Pin. did.
And then I did the thing I should’ve done in the first place. I asked my mom.
Without any hesitation, my mom immediately said plan. Play. Party. Plan. I loved it as soon as I heard it and honestly couldn’t figure out why I hadn’t thought of it myself and here’s why.
I love to plan things, maybe even more than I love to play games. And that’s really saying something.
Planning parties, planning trips, planning meals, planning half marathon training, whatever it is I enjoy it. Honestly, I much prefer the planning part to the actual thing itself, vacations excluded of course. People say that there is joy in the journey and for me, there’s joy in the planning. I love researching all of the unique things to do in the places I visit. I love searching for the perfect vacation home for our family reunion. And sketching out my party table with all of the little details even if I can’t actually draw a circle to save my life. I know those circles represent cake pops. I love planning out minute to win it games to entertain my guests.
I may even have an entire spreadsheet of all of the half-marathons I’m planning to run in each of the 50 states, not because I’ll for sure run those, but because the process of going through and researching which half-marathon looked the coolest in each state was just fun for me. Planning out the list was fun. Crazy right?
Planning is what I do best, and my mom knows me best, so it only makes sense that she’d be the one who could pick out the perfect name for my blog, my blog that is an extension of me. Execution of said plans is a different story altogether, but the planning I’ve got nailed.
So now, I’d like to casually (because nothing is formal over here) introduce you to the new and improved Play. Party. Plan. Design courtesy of Stephanie at How Sweet Designs and name courtesy of the person who instilled every ounce of creativity I have in me, my mom. I hope you love all the changes and continue to enjoy the same fun and creative ideas I’ve shared for the past two years, just with a little makeover.
If you’re a blogger and considering rebranding yourself, I highly recommend reading The Blogger’s Guide to Rebranding by Cori George of Hey, Let’s Make Stuff. It’s one of the reasons I finally decided to go ahead with the new name and design in the first place. And not only does it have everything you need to know about the technical side of rebranding, it has a ton of information to help you really choose a brand and design that you love before you do it. Seriously one of the most helpful ebooks I’ve ever read and I have an entire Kindle shelf full! Those are affiliate links, but I would recommend the book just as highly if they weren’t!
