Want to know what Stephen tWitch Boss and Allison Holker had to say about hosting Pop Up Santa Holiday Special and Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings: Holiday Magic? Keep reading to hear all about the magic of these two shows from two of my favorite dancers of all time!
I\was invited by Disney, ABC & Freeform to Los Angeles for an all-inclusive event. All opinions and ideas are 100% honest and my own!
While getting the chance to meet Lin-Manuel Miranda and be in the same room as Dick Van Dyke at the Mary Poppins Returns premiere was amazing, it wasn’t my only huge fangirl moment of my recent trip to LA.
After all of the Mary Poppins Returns fun was over, we had a morning full of 25 Days of Christmas fun that I’ll be sharing over the next three days!
First up, was chatting and making ornaments with two of my absolute favorite dancers from So You Think You Can Dance – Stephen “tWitch Boss” and his wife Allison Holker.
I mean they’re both doing totally different things now (hello Ellen, Dancing with the Stars, Freeform) but they’ll always be my SYTYCD favorites.
Now even more so because you guys, they’re just amazing in person. So caring, charismatic, and honestly hilarious.
We had the chance to sit down and talk to them a bit about two holiday specials they’re hosting on Freeform this season – Pop Up Santa Holiday Special and Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings: Holiday Magic.
Then we had an ornament making contest (no, I didn’t win) and grabbed some pictures and dance selfies before they had to get back to two kids and busy lives.
These are just a few highlights from our chat session.
When we asked if there was anything that surprised them about working on these two shows, the thing that surprised them most, or I guess should say impressed them, was everyone at Disney’s work ethic and love for their jobs.
It was kind of hilarious because they’re sitting there talking about how much Disney cast members love their jobs and how much they (tWitch and Allison) love Disney and partnering with Disney and yeah – they were talking to the right people. An entire table full of Disney fanatics all just nodding away as they talked about Disney cast members truly just caring about their jobs and the people.
Speaking of Disney and caring about people – something you may not have known is that each of Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings is specifically catered and personalized to the individuals in ways you could never imagine. Honestly probably in ways that won’t come across in the show but watch it Saturday night anyway just to see!
Details such as lighting the castle pink because pink was the bride’s favorite color. And bringing in a choir with a groom’s child in it to sing for the wedding. And getting Martina McBride to perform because she was their favorite singer.
They don’t call it Fairy Tale Weddings for no reason.
Disney’s Fairy-Tale Weddings: Holiday Special airs Saturday, December 8th from 8-9:00PM EST/PST. Check out a sneak peek of this amazing holiday episode below. And minor spoiler, apparently there’s a Mary Poppins Returns twist included!
We also went on a bit of a tangent of Disney in general and how Disney is in the details (kind of like I talked about in this post!). They’re apparently huge fans of finding hidden Mickeys and little details throughout the park.
Allison’s favorite hidden Mickeys – on the wall of the Garden Grill and in the haunted mansion on the banquet table. And while you’re looking for that one, try to find the Jack Skellington that apparently shows up during a certain flash in the banquet room. I’ve already put it on my agenda to find while I’m at WDW in January!
We also chatted about Pop Up Santa and how amazing it was to be involved with a program that gives to deserving men and women around the country. If you weren’t able to catch the premiere of the show on Monday night, it’ll be showing again throughout the month of December on FreeForm or you can catch it online here.
The show is full of holiday surprises and honestly made me want to find ways to be a Pop Up Santa myself this holiday season – give back to those who are either fighting their own battles or just need a little uplift.
My favorite story from the show had me ugly crying while I watched. The Avery Family took their daughter in for treatment after being diagnosed with brain cancer only to find out while in the hospital that their younger son also had the same thing. I literally can’t even imagine one child with brain cancer let alone two.
Pop Up Santa gave this family, these kids, the chance to be kids again if only for one day. These are the ultimate heroes in my book.
So if you watch nothing else this holiday season, spend 90 minutes watching Pop Up Santa Holiday Special; I promise it’ll get you in the true Christmas spirit and remind you why we’re really celebrating this year.
