Superhero Amazing Race

Have you ever been to a midnight premiere of a superhero movie? How about every one that’s come out in the past ten years? The latter describes my family; they love everything about superheroes. So this summer when my dad asked me to plan a half-day event for our superhero family reunion it didn’t take me long to come up with an idea. I also love the show Amazing Race and thought it would be so much fun to do a superhero amazing race. The only regret I have is that I planned it so I didn’t get to participate myself.

 Superhero Amazing Race

Our race included a group of 50 people of all ages. I split the group into 10 teams, gave each team a superhero name like “Team Batman,” and made each team a bag full of goodies including masks, water bottles, maps, rules, and clues.

All teams were given their bags at the same time and when I said go, told to open clue #1 to get the race started. The clues included everything from driving to a nearby park to feed ducks to hiking a trail to find superheroes hidden in the forest. This was such a fun event for our family and I can’t wait to plan more amazing races in the future.

Plan Your Own Superhero Amazing Race

While we did our amazing race with a large group and drove all over town, this could easily be adapted for a child’s birthday party or even with just your own individual family in your backyard. And if you’re not as obsessed with superheroes as we are, you could easily make an Amazing Race with any other theme. All you need are the free printables below, a little creativity, and some super participants.
Step 1 – Estimate how many teams you will have. Small teams are best so everyone can participate as much as possible. Give each team a superhero name.
Step 2 – Come up with your clues and print out one of each clue for each team. You can use my clues below as examples and adjust as needed to fit your group. For example, rather than having your team build a fire, have them  build a tower out of blocks. Or rather than having them drive to a nearby restaurant, have them come into the kitchen and eat an entire package of Oreos.
Step 3 – Put together your bags. You can fill them with whatever goodies you want, but you should include clues and rules (if there are any). Other fun things to include are water bottles with superhero labels, masks, and capes. Because we sent teams all over town, we gave them all of their numbered clues in their bag. You could also just give teams clue #1 and have them receive their next clue after they complete a task.
Step 4 – Setup your race. If you can, create clues that teams can complete without supervision so you can sit back and enjoy the fun that you have created.
Step 5 – Break into teams, give teams their goodies, and say go.

Is there a way to have those amazing race printables in a different format? I can’t print from powerpoint view. We’re doing a superhero theme for Girl Scout camp and this would be great for our scavenger hunt.

Camilla, I only have them in PowerPoint and PDF but unfortunately the PDF aren’t editable. Can you print any PowerPoints or just not this one?

That’s a good question. It says powerpoint viewer when it opens. I can have my husband see what he can do.
        Thanks!

Ok, I got it to work. I moved it to the One Drive in Microsoft Outlook. It turned them into PDF form. Sometimes I get these breaks with the computer where I have no idea how it happened or if I could do it again.
The Girl Scouts are going to love this!

Really cute idea! This would be such a great neighborhood idea to get the kids doing something outside rather than sitting with their faces glued to a screen! Sharing to FB. – Christine
