Valentine’s Day Strawberry Punch

We love coming up with drinks that are both kid-friendly but also good enough that adults will enjoy drinking them! We’ve created over 50 different drink recipes including everything from the best homemade lemonade to a fancy raspberry mocktail!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I thought it’d be fun to share a signature drink that works both for kids Valentine’s Day parties as well as Galentine’s girls night and even date nights!

But don’t stop there – you could also make this for Mother’s Day, Easter, or really all summer long while strawberries are fresh and make tasty garnishes for the top!

Why you’ll love this

  • Bright Color – this strawberry punch has a beautiful bright pink color that would be perfect for using with any baby shower theme, bridal shower, or as mentioned before, Valentine’s Day parties!
  • Strawberry flavor – the strawberry flavor combined with the raspberry sherbet makes this a bright and refreshing punch that everyone will love!
  • Kid-friendly but not just for kids – while this obviously a kid-friendly punch, it’s good enough for the adults too, making it the perfect signature drink for most events!

Ingredient Notes

  1. Strawberry gelatin – any strawberry flavored gelatin will work, Jello or the generic brand. Just make sure you’re getting strawberry and not something else red like cherry or raspberry. If you accidentally get cherry, make this Santa Claus punch instead (and just put hearts on it!)
  2. Water – you’ll need both hot and cold water for this recipe to make sure that the gelatin dissolves correctly!
  3. Sprite – I personally prefer Sprite in this recipe but 7-Up will work as well. I don’t love Starry so I’d skip that but it should work in a pinch if you have nothing else.
  4. Raspberry sherbet – make sure you’re getting sherbet and not raspberry sorbet, if you grab raspberry sorbet, make this raspberry summer punch instead!

How to make

This strawberry punch is so easy to make! If you can make Jello (and everyone can), you can make this punch!

1 – Make the Strawberry Punch Base

The base of this Valentine’s Day punch is strawberry jello, which gives it the delicious strawberry flavor you’ll love!

Start by combining your hot water and sugar together in a large freezer safe bowl. I typically use my punch bowl but if you don’t have one that’s freezer safe, you can use whatever you have for this first step and transfer it later.

Stir the gelatin into the hot water until it’s completely dissolved. Then add your sugar and cold water to the same bowl and mix until it’s all well combined.

Finish the base by adding the pineapple juice to the mixture and stirring.

Then transfer the entire bowl to your freezer and freeze for at least four hours, ideally overnight.

Tip!

I love to freeze the punch so that it’s ice cold when you serve it (without ice). It also keeps the sherbet from melting too quickly. However, if you don’t have time to freeze the punch – just make sure you’re using chilled liquids so that it’s at least cold, if not ice cold – and you can move right to the next step.

2 – Finish the Strawberry Punch

About 15-30 minutes before you’re ready to serve the punch, pull it out of the freezer and let it thaw for a bit so that when you move onto the next step, you’ll actually be able to mix it in.

Once it’s thawed enough that you can stir it (it may be a little slushy), add your Sprite and stir to combine.

3 – Add the Sherbet

Right before you’re going to serve the punch, add scoops of raspberry sherbet to the top of the punch. Slice up some fresh strawberries and toss them on for garnish as well (if you want).

4 – Serve the Valentine’s Day Punch

Once the sherbet is added, it’s time to serve the strawberry punch! You can either just have people serve themselves directly from the punch bowl or you can pre-fill cups.

I personally think it’s fun to pre-fill cups that are garnished with strawberry hearts and a sanding sugar coated rim or sprinkle rim to make this Valentine’s Day punch even more fun but if you don’t want that extra work, letting people serve their own is just fine!

Expert Tips & Storage Information

Freeze the strawberry mixture in your punch bowl so that you don’t have to transfer it when it thaws. It’s much easier to just add everything right on top!

Make sure all of your liquids are chilled if you’re planning to serve this without freezing!

Skip the ice so that it doesn’t dilute the flavor of this strawberry punch. Use chilled liquids or freeze the punch so you don’t have to use ice!

Store leftovers in the fridge in a pitcher for up to three days. The sherbet will obviously melt but the flavor is still good! If you want, you can even add in an extra scoop of new sherbet just before enjoying the leftovers!

Recipe FAQs

How do you coat the rim of the glass with sugar?

Dip the rim of your glass in either simple syrup or a little lemon (or any citrus) juice then immediately dip into sanding sugar. I like to use this red one but you could use any color you want!

How many people does this punch serve?

This punch will serve 24 people in six ounce cups and 20ish in eight ounce cups. I always recommend going for the smallest cups when you’re serving punch to keep people from wasting it. They can always come back and get more but if you serve in larger glasses, often times they’ll end up not drinking as much as the glass holds and just throw it away.

Strawberry Punch

This easy strawberry punch recipe is perfect for Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s, or even Mother’s Day! The bright strawberry flavored mixed with the perfect amount of fizz gets topped with sherbet for a pink punk that everyone will love!
Prevent your screen from going dark
Prep: 5 minutes minutes
Total: 4 hours hours 5 minutes minutes
Serves 24 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 box strawberry jello
  • 8 oz boiling water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 64 oz cold water
  • 20 oz pineapple juice
  • 2 liter Sprite
  • ½ gal raspberry sherbet
  • sliced strabwerries optional garnish

Instructions

  • Add strawberry jello to boiling water and stir until completely dissolved. Pour into a large freezer safe bowl (ideally punch bowl).
  • Add sugar and cold water to the mixture and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • Add pineapple juice to the bowl and mix well. Place the bowl in the freezer for at least four hours, ideally overnight. (This is optional – see notes section).
  • About 30 minutes before serving, remove the punch from the freezer and let thaw.
  • Right before serving, add the Sprite to the punch mixture and stir well.
  • Top with scoops of raspberry sherbet (don’t stir) then garnish with sliced strawberries (optional). Serve immediately.

Tips & Notes:

You don’t technically have to freeze the strawberry mixture for this punch to still be tasty – I just prefer to freeze it so that it’s nice ice cold without having to use ice. It helps to keep the sherbet from melting too quickly as well, but if you’re in a pinch just make sure you’re using all chilled ingredients and it should be fine!
