Gifts for Tween Boys
I asked my email subscribers who the hardest people to shop for were and one of the answers I got over and over again were tween boys (ages 9-12). Not girls but tween boys.
They may not have necessarily called them tween boys but people asked for gifts for 10 year old boys, 11 year old boys, and even 12 year old boys.
I don’t have tween boys yet nor do I know much about what to get tween boys. I mean I’m pretty sure any kid would love this monthly adventure box, but I don’t have tween boys so not 100% sure.
Luckily I have a brother who does. So I asked my sister-in-law to put together a list of the best gifts for tween boys, mostly based on her own sons’ Christmas wish lists! She put this list together when her boys were 9 and 11 and many of the items on the list are things that they use and love.
Since her boys were 9 and 11, I’m just going to go right in the middle and call these gifts for 10 year old boys. They’d work great for 9, 10, 11, and 12 year old boys as well.
My number one gift for kids of any age is one of these experience gifts for kids but if you’re going to buy something tangible, these gift ideas are great too!

Gifts for 10 Year Old Boys Who Love Sports
Basketball Hoop
If you don’t have on already, a basketball hoop is always a good option for boys who love sports. Not only is it great for practicing their shot, but it’s a great excuse for friends to come over and play.
A portable and lightweight option that can be setup and moved around easily. It’s a great option for getting a little practice in but easy enough to move if they want to play at the park with friends.
If you have baseball lover in the family, this net is a must. You can do soft toss into it for pitching practice and there’s a pocket in the middle to catch the balls, not just bounce it back.
Whether they’re athletic or not, this magnetic dart board is a fun gift to add to their hangout space. I love that it’s magnetic so there’s less chance of darts injuring another person!
This seems pretty straightforward but if they like sports, a nice ball for their favorite sport is always a good gift. If they’re a basketball fan, this Spalding TF-250 is a good choice.
If they like soccer, get a soccer ball. Volleyball – a volleyball. You get the idea!
Spike Ball is one of our personal favorite outdoor games and the 9 and 11 year old boys are pros at it! This would be a great gift for anyone who likes to be active and enjoys sports.
Does that 10 year old boy have a favorite sports team? Fan gear like hoodies or hats make great gifts, especially if you personalize it with their favorite player’s number! Even better if you can get tickets to see his favorite team and put them inside.
Boys love their video game time because it helps them to relax and unwind. The X-Box One is totally digital meaning no discs to lose and the boys can play games online with their friends.
One of the coolest things about the Nintendo Switch is that it can go with you wherever you go. So if you travel a lot, the Switch can go in the car or on the airplane with you. You can also synch up to friends’ Nintendo Switches and play together! Even better if you give it to them with one of these fun kids Nintendo Switch games!
Boys already have an X-Box? Get them a Kinect to make it even more fun with the connected movement. Makes sports games, shooting games, dance games, etc. way more fun!
A gaming chair is a must for kids who like to play video games. This lounge chair is soft enough that it’s comfortable for sitting in after a long day of hard chairs at school. This one is also a sleeper recliner chair so perfect for using if your boys are having friends sleepover.
It’s like a game of laser tag right in your very home and unlike Nerf guns, you don’t have to go pick up all of the bullets and put them back in! This at home laser tag set is one that will have boys running around playing for hours at a time.
If you are buying for a Star Wars fan, there is nothing cooler than this Droid Inventor Kit from LittleBits. You not only get to build your very own Droid, you get to add in the sounds and stickers to make it sound like your favorite Star Wars droids too!
This STEM based kit focuses on teaching problem-solving abilities while still encouraging creativity and fun within engineering. I’ve personally tried this kit out and it was a lot of fun and easy enough that my 6-year-old could use but fun enough that even teenagers were getting into the challenges.
I don’t know when boys get sick of LEGOs but a more complicated LEGO set is always a good idea for tween boys. Pick out one that matches his interests or a popular movie (e.g., Jurassic World, Avengers) and that has enough pieces to keep him busy for a while. He’ll love putting the complicated set together.
A fun educational STEM set is always a good choice and this classic circuits kit comes with 60 pieces and 300 different STEM type projects to complete.
If you know the boys like puzzles and games, get them a challenging one that they can work on with their friends. Five hundred to thousand piece options with a puzzle that matches their interest is best.

The Kids Edition of the popular Echo Dot is set up specifically for kids to use. Great for playing music, playing games, and just relaxing with a few jokes (Alexa tells great jokes). This is the actual watch my 11 year old nephew has, and he loves it because he gets to see how much he’s moved during the day and how well he slept at night. It’s also durable and good for setting timers for things like homework, time playing video games, etc.

This ukulele starter kit gives boys the chance to create their very own music. It’s easy to use and comes with a padded traveling case for storage or travel.
If they don’t have a phone to store music yet, an iPod Nano is a great gift option. If they love music the iPod lets them take that music with them wherever they go. It’s small, portable, and produces great sound.
My sister-in-law said that she’s tried out a ton of different types of headphones and these ones in particular are the best they’ve tried. There’s a volume control on the headset and they fold up and fit into the included bag for easy travel.
