Chocolate chip cookie dough gets added to a pie crust in this delicious chocolate chip cookie pie! It’s the perfect dessert for any holiday, especially when served warm and topped with a little vanilla ice cream on top!

Is there anything better than a warm chocolate chip cookie? There’s a reason chocolate chip cookie cakes are so popular! The combination of a warm cookie, especially with ice cream on top, is a classic that pretty much everyone loves.

This recipe takes the idea of a chocolate chip cookie to another level by turning it into a pie – yes, I said a pie. You’ve probably had a cookie cake before but have you ever had a chocolate chip cookie baked into a pie crust?

This chocolate chip cookie pie is going to blow you away with how good it is. There’s just something about the gooey cookie combined with the flaky pie crust that is amazing.

So next time you need to bring a pie to something whether it be Thanksgiving dinner or a Pi day party, try this one instead of a classic homemade apple pie or Reese’s peanut butter pie.

I can almost guarantee no one else will be bringing chocolate chip cookie pie! Unless of course they buy one from Pizza Hut!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy – if you can make chocolate chip cookies, you can make this pie. It’s literally cookie dough spread into a pie crust and baked.
  • Unique – the combo of chocolate chip cookie dough with the pie crust is different enough to make people think they’re eating unique, even if it’s really just two classic favorites combined!
  • No chill dough – there’s no chilling, freezing, or cooling time for this recipe. It’s just make the dough, add to pie, bake the pie, and enjoy!

Ingredient Notes

  • Butter – you want to use unsalted butter for this recipe. If you do only have salted, omit the pinch of fine salt from the recipe. Unlike some baking recipes that call for softened butter, in this case you’re going to want to melt the butter and let it cool.
  • Chocolate chips – I used milk chocolate chips in this because I like the sweetness of them, but you could totally use semi-sweet as well. I used regular Toll House chocolate chips for this.
  • Pie crust– you’ll need one 9-inch pie crust for the recipe. You can either make your own flaky pie crust or just buy a store-bought one. They typically come in packs of two – use the second one to make these mini pizza pies!

How to Make Chocolate Chip cookie Pie

I’ve already talked a bit about how easy this is to make but really it’s just a few steps, especially if you’re going to make your own pie crust (which I don’t recommend).

The first thing you need to do is make your chocolate chip cookie dough.

Unlike a lot of recipes that make you separate your dry and wet ingredients (looking at you Nutella muffins) and then mix them together, this one doesn’t.

Start by preheating your oven to 350°F. Place your pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crisp the edges gently, then set that aside for later.

Whisk the brown sugar and melted (and cooled) butter together in a large bowl.

Add in your eggs and vanilla then whisk again until smooth. And I say whisk, but you can totally beat as well – just do it on low speed.

Add your flour and salt to the mixture and again, mix it until well combined. It won’t be as thick as a traditional chocolate chip cookie dough so don’t be alarmed – it’s still pie filling so should be smooth but thinner than normal dough.

Then finally, add your chocolate chips and stir them in until there are chocolate chips in all parts of your dough.

Pour the cookie batter into your prepared pie crust and smooth it out carefully with a rubber spatula on top.

Sprinkle some more chocolate chips on top (the secret to bakery looking treats!) then bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick pushed into the center comes out clean. It should be a nice golden brown color.

Let it cool on a wire cooling rack until you’re ready to serve.

You don’t want to eat this piping hot right out of the oven, but it is delicious warm and topped with vanilla ice cream, so I recommend serving pretty soon after it comes out of the oven.

It’s also cool at room temperature and even cold but warm is my personal favorite!

And did I mention that it’s delicious topped with ice cream? Totally craving a piece of this chocolate chip cookie pie right now!

Expert Tips

Try topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce (this homemade hot fudge would be amazing on it).

Start checking the pie at 40 minutes and remove between 40-45 minutes if you want a gooey center. The pie will be fully baked around 50 minutes so when you remove from the oven will depend on how done you want the pie.

Cut down the chocolate chips to one cup if you want more cookie, less chocolate. This pie is loaded with chocolate chips (on purpose) but is still good with just a few less chips.

Mix it up by adding nuts (I could see walnuts being great in this) or switching out the chocolate chips with something like peanut butter chips or toffee chips (like the ones I used for my toffee caramel cookies).

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days but honestly, it likely won’t last that long!

Recipe FAQs

Can you make chocolate chip cookie pie without the crust or with a graham cracker crust?

The fun of this recipe is baking a chocolate chip cookie into a pie crust. The crust also gives it a lot of its flavor. If you want to make something without a crust, I recommend making a cookie cake or skillet cookie instead. This reindeer cake would be great – just don’t decorate like a reindeer.

Can you use pre-made cookie dough?

I do not recommend using pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough in this pie. The filling is not exactly what you’d use if you were just baking cookies, so it won’t work the same way. If you have chocolate chip cookie dough, you can try making these cookie Brownie Oreo bars instead!
