When I first made my Easter bark back in April, people went absolutely crazy about it! I get it, it’s a great recipe and a super fun one too!

Since Halloween is known for candy even more than Easter, I thought it’d be fun to make a Halloween bark variation for the spooky season!

This Halloween bark recipe combines the flavors of a good old fashioned s’more in bark form, and it’s my absolute favorite bark recipe – way better than just melted chocolate topped with things!

It’s a fun treat for a Halloween party or even to bag up and add to you’ve been booed buckets! And since it’s such an easy Halloween treat to make, it’s great for making and serving to a crowd!

Make up a batch the next time you want some Halloween treats or serve it up after you play a few of these Halloween games as a reward for the players! Or bring it to the next spooky soiree you’re invited to!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easiest thing – this Halloween candy bark recipe is so easy – it’s literally just laying out graham crackers, pouring marshmallow over that, covering with chocolate, and then all of your favorite candies! There’s no baking, no freezing, no real skills necessary!
  • Fun treat – is there anything more fun than a treat full of your favorite candies? This is just a fun treat to look at, which means it’s also fun to eat! And the best part is that you can really top the base with anything you want – Snickers Bars, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, Kit Kats, candy corn, Halloween sprinkles, pretzel sticks, candy eyeballs – you name it and it probably tastes good on this! It’s a great way to use up leftover Halloween candy too!
  • Unique – unlike traditional bark that just uses melted chocolate chips or almond bark as the base, the graham crackers and marshmallow combination in this makes for a really fun and substantial treat. It tastes more like a bar than just a piece of chocolate covered in sweet treats.

Ingredient Notes

  • Baker’s chocolate – while I prefer to use baking chocolate for this because it just melts so smooth, you could also use chocolate melting wafers, chocolate chips (dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or semi sweet chocolate all work great), or even chocolate almond bark.
  • Marshmallows – large marshmallows or mini marshmallows work great, you just need to be able to melt them!
  • Graham crackers – make sure to get the graham crackers that come in the large rectangles, not the ones that come in squares. Well the other ones work okay, but they’ll make this easy Halloween dessert a little less easy because adding the graham crackers will take twice as much work!
  • Halloween candy – you can use whatever Halloween you want on this. I really like to include candy eyes, candy corn, Halloween M&Ms, and other little Halloween candies that are easy to eat. I recommend not doing something like gummy worms that will have a hard time being cut on the bark.
  • Halloween sprinkles – just like with the candies, think about doing sprinkles that are easy to eat like jimmies or nonpareils. You can do any color you want, but I recommend bright colored ones to give your Halloween bark a pop of Halloween color!

How to make halloween bark

If you made my Easter bark during Easter time, this is made the exact same way! It’s literally just a layer of graham crackers, marshmallow, chocolate, and candy!

First, line a 9.5″x 13″ baking sheet with parchment paper. If you want to make less you can use a smaller baking sheet and just use half a piece of parchment paper.

Place graham crackers in a single layer on the lined baking sheet. You can trim the graham crackers if you need to! Try to place them as close together as possible and make sure you have an even layer.

Next, in a large microwave safe bowl add the marshmallows then pour the melted butter on top. Stir to coat the marshmallows in the butter. Microwave at 30 second increments until the marshmallows are completely melted.

You can also combine the butter and marshmallows on the stove over low heat. Continually stir over low heat until the marshmallows are completely melted. Make sure you do this on low or the marshmallows tend to get harder quickly after they cool.

bowl full of melted marshmallows

Pour the melted marshmallows over the graham crackers. If there’s not enough marshmallow to cover the graham crackers, get it as close to the edges as possible. Or you could also melt more marshmallows if you really want.

In another microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate in the medium microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Stir, then repeat in 20 second intervals until the chocolate is melted and smooth.

Stovetop Option!

You can also melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stove as well. When I’m not in a hurry, this is the double boiler I use. I’ve found it’s faster to melt the chocolate in the microwave, but I think the chocolate has a better texture melted with a double boiler.

Pour the chocolate evenly over the marshmallow layer and use a spatula to smooth it out over the marshmallow as much as possible.

Press the candies into the melted chocolate while it is still soft. You can either sprinkle them on or individually place them if you want some sort of pattern. I like to just try to get one piece of each type of candy on each piece of bark!

Let the chocolate on the bark set completely before you try to cut. Then you can either just pull pieces away like I did in my TikTok video here (not recommended) or you can use a sharp knife to cut the Halloween bark into squares to enjoy!

Then enjoy! The graham crackers give this a nice crunch while the marshmallow and chocolate satisfy everyone’s Halloween sweet tooth! I mean, look at those yummy layers!

Expert Tips and Storage Info

Store at room temperature for up to one week in an airtight container. If it’s warm inside, keep refrigerated so the chocolate doesn’t melt.

Make sure to use non-stick cooking spray on the spatula and your hands when dealing with the melted marshmallow. It can get really sticky and you don’t want it to pull up the graham crackers when stuck to your hands. This expert tip will save you from a lot of hand washing!

Mix it up! Try this same graham cracker bark base with other holidays and candies.

Try a white chocolate bark version by using high-quality white baking chocolate, white chocolate chips, or almond bark instead of the chocolate version! The melted white chocolate looks really pretty with Halloween sprinkles and candy corn!

Recipe FAQs

Can I freeze this chocolate bark?

This chocolate bark can be frozen for up to three months. Cut the bark and place the pieces in a zipper top freezer safe bag. The bark still tastes delicious – just know that the appearance may not be the same.

How do I cut chocolate bark easily?

Spray a sharp knife lightly with non-stick cooking spray before cutting the bark. This will help prevent the marshmallow from sticking to the knife during the cutting process.

What goes well on this easy Halloween bark?

Any sort of candies that you can bite through easily are great on this Halloween bark recipe! Reese’s peanut butter cups, Reese’s pieces, chocolate bars, Halloween peeps, candy corn, candy pumpkins, and any other fun Halloween-themed candy would work great! You could even add a little bit of salt if you wanted to try a sweet and salty version!

Made this in Australia so used Salada biscuits. Melted the chocolate on the stove top over hot water instead of dropping chocolate buttons on top of cooked base. Doubled the recipe and it took 10-15 mins in the oven to turn brown and bubbly. Absolutely delicious in the end and seriously addictive.

Great idea for halloween! But I think we can replace the butter with pure ghee or clarified butter. They both are good options for sauteing, grilling, even baking! And not only that, ghee is indeed a more wise choice in terms of health.

I’ve only ever tried it with regular butter but melted ghee would likely work as well.
