This workout playlist for strength training is full of great workout songs that will keep you pumped up throughout your workout!
One of my goals for the upcoming fall is not only to get back in shape but to build muscle. Somewhere in the past three years my muscles have just disappeared, and I would love to be able to hold my toddler for more than a few minutes without my arms aching.
When I think about muscles, I think of my husband and my brothers, especially my little brother. He’s never been real scrawny but the past few years since he stopped playing college basketball he’s really started to bulk up. Every time I see him I swear his arms are just a little bigger. He’s actually the one who first introduced me to protein powder and convinced me to start adding protein to my smoothies.
This past week while I was visiting my family I worked out with my siblings and it was fascinating to see how much goes into actual building muscle. I’m a cardio girl through and through, but I’m quickly realizing to build muscle, cardio isn’t enough. And neither is just exercise; building muscle really is a three-part program – exercise, eating well, and getting enough protein.
One other thing my brothers convinced me I needed last week was an update to my workout music. I apparently listen to too much pop and angry girl music when I run. They gave me some new song ideas that I probably wouldn’t run too, but let me tell you, they are great workout songs for strength training! There were definitely times when the song playing was the only thing that got me through the last push-up or two. Here are 25 of my favorite new workout songs!

I’ve been pumping iron for 15+ years and I swear it’s the fountain of youth… no one pegs me for 40! There’s a lot to learn, but even as a vegetarian, I’ve never gone in for supplements and protein drinks, etc. My favorite workout music is Pink and Timberlake : -)

I do not do strength training, but I walk four times a week. I love listening to workout songs when I do. This is a great list and I will add them to my playlist.

This is a great playlist of songs to work out to. I have not seen this protein drink before. I have always hated mixing powders. I think working out with siblings would make me more competitive.

I’ve never tried protein shakes because I have always been a cardio girl too. I grew up dancing, so at the gym I love Zumba and yoga. Sometimes I’ll use the weights, but it’s a pathetic attempt. I never thought about how music affects weightlifting, but the beat in those songs is different. I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks!

I also find it quite hard to take protein since we’re mostly vegetarians and our major source of protein comes from soy or tofu. Listening to songs while doing strength workouts gives more encouragement as you’re in tune with the music. I know only some of those songs listed above, so I gotta try to listen to the rest in my next workout session.

My husband is an Ironman Triathelete and he just downs the protein powder all the time. I’m forever going back to the store to get him a big tub of it, haha! So I definitely know where you’re coming from being in a household like that. LOVE a lot of those songs for strength training too… especially Modest Mouse & Foo Fighters 🙂

You know, you really do need good music to lift weights. My husband swears that he isn’t as strong if he doesn’t have the right music going. I love the list you have here. Although, I think you should have put Eye of the Tiger on there. What can I say? I’m an 80s chick.
