Galentine's Day Jeopardy question

This fun Galentine’s Jeopardy game is great for playing with your girlfriends for an upcoming Galentine’s Day party! There are over 60 different questions that all have some sort of Galentine’s Day, gals, or women theme!

Galentine's Day Jeopardy board

I created a Valentine’s Day Jeopardy game that is all about love but thought it’d be fun to also create a Galentine’s Day one that is more focused on women, girlfriends, and girl power!

This Galentine’s Day Jeopardy is just like the actual game show where you choose a question in a category and players try to answer it first to win points! The only difference is that all of the categories have a Galentine’s day theme!

I’ve included a printable version of the game in this post but if you want something more digital, I’ve already created PowerPoint templates – you can get both the Galentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day games where everything is done and ready to download! It’s the easiest way to play but maybe not the cutest!

How to Play Galentine’s Day Jeopardy

You can play this Galentine’s Day Jeopardy game in a couple of different ways depending on how many people you have playing.

1 – Choose Your Teams

Figure out how many people on each team or if you’re going to play individually. I’ve included my suggestions below based on the number of people you’re playing with but you know your group best so do what works for you!

  1. Small group (up to 5 people) – have everyone play on their own just like in the actual Jeopardy game show. This works best in groups of five or less.
  2. Medium group (6-20 people) – split into teams and have the teams work together to answer the questions and play. You can have players rotate to be the person answering the question or just let the entire team answer!
  3. Large group (21+ people) – have everyone play individually and just hand out small prizes (like candy bars) for answering individual questions. Or just have people keep track of their points and the person with the most points – that can get complicated but is totally doable.

Give each team a buzzer or if you don’t have buzzers, put something in front of them. I love these buzzers because they make different sounds so it’s easy to hear which one buzzed in first, which is trickier than you think!

Note!

I recommend having two people run the game – one person who is hosting the game and one person who can help keep scores and seeing who buzzed in first, unless you want to do that all on your own! I’ve just found any time you do game shows like this and our floor game a second set of eyes can be helpful!

2 – Start the Game

The game starts with the host reading the $200 question in the first column of the board, in this case it would be Girl Groups for $200.

Once the question has been read, the first team to hit their buzzer has five seconds to answer the question. No longer so they can’t finish reading the question on the screen and just answer once they’ve read the entire thing.

Tip!

If you find that people start to just buzz in and read the rest of the question (in the PowerPoint templates) after they buzz in, start making them answer the question right away – taking away the five second allowance. If they don’t start their answer right away, they lose it.

The answers are written in the form of a question (e.g., Who is Brad Pitt?), but you can decide how much of a stickler you want to be on this with people actually giving their answers. I’ve found this can be hard for the younger crew!

  • If the player answers correctly – they win the points for that question AND they gain control of the board meaning they get to choose the next question.
  • If the player answers incorrectly – they lose the points of the question (you can go negative) and the other teams can then buzz in to try and answer. Or you can skip losing points and just have all points be positive ones.

If any team doesn’t buzz in within five seconds of the question being read, you can just tell them the answer to the question (or delay a little if someone seems close) and the person who was previously in control of the board chooses another question. Or you can try to give them a clue so someone can still get it – totally up to you!

3 – Choose the Next Question

Whichever player answers the question correctly wins control of the board, which means that they choose the next question category and the value, which can be a huge perk if you are really good at one particular category.

So for example, they might choose Girl Power Anthems for $800 as their question. Remove that value from your board once it’s asked so that people know which questions have not yet been answered. That’s why I love the post-it note Jeopardy board I’m sharing at the bottom of this post, it allows people to see quickly what’s left on the board to choose from.

Read the new question and whoever buzzes in first and answers correctly wins the points and control of the board.

Keep going until you’ve gotten through all of the questions in the initial Jeopardy round then play Double Jeopardy in the exact same way, except the values are doubled! I typically just put my Double Jeopardy board on the back of my regular one.

What about Daily Doubles?

There are daily double questions noted in the questions and answers set if you’d like to use them in your game.

If you do use them, this is what happens when someone chooses a Daily Double:

  1. Before reading the question, announce that it is a daily double.
  2. Only the contestant who chose the question wagers how much they want the question to be worth, they can wager what they have in the bank.
  3. Ask just that contestant the question and if they answer it correctly, they win the points – if they don’t, they lose the points from their score.

how does Final Jeopardy work?

The last part of a game of Jeopardy is called Final Jeopardy and it’s one single question. While I have included these in my Jeopardy sets, it’s totally up to you if you want to do it not. It’s better for small or medium groups!

  1. Read the Final Jeopardy category to the group.
  2. Have everyone write down how much they wager on the question (can wager as much as they have in the bank).
  3. Read the question and give everyone one minute to write down their answer. (Play Jeopardy music for a fun addition to the game)
  4. Go through answers one by one and anyone who answered correctly wins what they wagered, anyone who doesn’t loses what they wagered.

Who wins?

The winner of this Galentine’s Day Jeopardy game is the person (or the team) at the end of all three rounds with the highest number of money earned.

Don’t forget to give the winning player or team a prize even it’s just a bag of chocolates or something small. It’s always more fun to play for prizes! Everyone loves prizes!

Note!

Jeopardy is typically played in three rounds – Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy (question values are doubled), and Final Jeopardy. You can choose to play one, two, or all of these rounds depending on the amount of time you have, your players, and your situation. And if you don’t have that long, you can always just set at time limit and play through as many questions as possible – they do that on Jeopardy all the time!

How to Make Your Jeopardy Board

There are so many different ways you can create a Galentine’s Day Jeopardy board. I’ve included an example board that we made using a poster board, some black ribbon with pink bows, sticker letters, and little girly cards! I just put our post-it notes inside and pulled them off as we went!

I’ve also included a picture of another Jeopardy board I created in the past for our baby shower Jeopardy that is made using post-it notes along with instructions to make that. The printable download includes the post-notes print outs for the Galentine’s Day questions if you want to go that route – it’s probably my favorite and easiest to make but maybe not quite as cute as the crafty edition above.

Or you can go completely digital and use our PowerPoint templates that include everything already setup in a PowerPoint template – regular Jeopardy, double Jeopardy, and even final Jeopardy. It’s literally just a matter of clicking the questions on the board and asking the questions!

How to make a Post-It Note Jeopardy board

The images and instructions below show a different Jeopardy board but it’s the same exact concept for this Galentine’s Day game. The download includes everything you need to print out your own Galentine’s day post-it note board! I recommend using girly colors like pinks, purples, and reds!

  1. Start by printing out a copy of the blank Jeopardy printouts sheet (the one that says Jeopardy Board Printout at the top). You can print as many as you want or just one and use that one over and over again (like I did).
  2. Add standard 3×3 post-it notes to the boxes, sticky side down. You can use whatever color post-it notes you want. I used Galentine’s Day colors for my board, but you can use whatever color you want.
  3. Put that paper back into your printer, making sure to load it correctly so that the post-it notes will be printed on (there should be an icon in your print tray). And make sure your post-it notes are all pressed down firmly so they don’t get caught in the printer.
  4. Print the first sheet of values and they’ll print right on top of the post-it notes. Repeat for the rest of the value sheets and the Friendsgiving category cards.
  5. Hang all of those post-it notes either up on the wall, a chalk board, or do what I did and add them to a foam board!

You can absolutely add a heading of some sort to the top of the board as well or just leave the categories and values if you’re lazy. I love the post-it note version because you can just take the values off as you use them.

And those post-it notes are totally reusable for different holidays – just switch out the category post-its!

Galetine’s Day Jeopardy FAQs

Do you have a PowerPoint version of the game?

I created PowerPoint versions of this game that you can get in my shop. All you have to do is download and play! Note, you do have to have PowerPoint to use the templates! There is also a Valentine’s Day Jeopardy game in there too!

Can Jeopardy end in a tie?

Jeopardy can’t end in a tie. If there’s a tie, use one of the questions from the other Jeopardy game set (I recommend a $1000 or $2000 one) and whoever buzzes in first out of the people tied wins.

Can you play Jeopardy without buzzers?

I highly recommend the buzzers just to make it as easy as possible for you to see who buzzed in first but some other options would be to have an item that people have to grab (like I do in these party games for adults), just make sure it’s something soft like a stuffed animal or pair of socks!

What are categories for Galentine’s Day Jeopardy?

The Galentine’s Day Jeopardy categories used in this game include all sorts of varying categories like Starts with “Gal,” Gal Pals, Girls Night, Chick Flicks, Treat Yourself, and more!

Galentine’s Day Jeopardy Questions and Answers

I’ve created a set of Galentine’s Day Jeopardy questions and answers that include six regular Jeopardy categories and questions, six Double Jeopardy categories and answers, and a Final Jeopardy category and question for a total of 61 questions and answers.

I’m not going to list all the questions and answers here, you can download those at the bottom of this post, but here are a couple of questions and answers to give you an idea. Everything in the game is designed to be teen-friendly (though probably too difficult for younger kids) and up.

  1. Girl Groups for 400 – This 1990s girl group launched Beyonce’s career (What is Destiny’s Child?)
  2. Pretty in Pink for 600 – The actress who played the main character Andie Walk in the movie Pretty in Pink (Who is Molly Ringwald?)
  3. Treat Yourself for 1000 – Jenna and Matt’s favorite candy in the movie 13 going on 30 (What are Razzles?)
  4. Think Like a Queen for 800 – This “Vogue” singer is often called the “Queen of Pop”. (Who is Madonna?)
  5. Bes-Teas for 1200 – Spinning teacup ride at Disneyland (What is the Mad Tea Party?)
