Roll a Rainbow St. Patrick’s Day Game

One of my family’s favorite games is left right center. It’s one of my son’s favorite birthday party games when we play with candy, and it’s one of my most popular gift exchange games ever!

Ever since we started playing Left Right Center my son has been obsessed with dice games. And since I made this fun roll a first aid kit printable for young women’s camp a few years ago, I thought it would be fun to make a new roll a object game for St. Patrick’s Day coming up.

This would go perfect with these pot of gold games I made for St. Patrick’s Day this year or forget St. Patrick’s Day and try it out at a Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty party instead!

Supplies Needed for Roll a Rainbow

This is a list of supplies if you want to go a little fancy. I’ve included items that are optional but could make the game just a bit more fun – choose which ones make the most sense for you.

If they’re optional, I’ve put optional next to them!

  • Roll a Rainbow game cards (get free printable at the bottom of this post)
  • One die per person – these rainbow colored dice would be amazing
  • Rainbow bingo markers (to mark off the colors as they roll them – totally optional, you can also just use pens)
  • Prizes – I’ve got an entire list of fun prize ideas later on in this post

How to Play Roll A Rainbow

The game is simple to play.

First, download the printable cards using in the Get the Free Printable section below. I highly recommend printing them on white card stock and if you want to use them year after year, laminate them so they last longer! Or just print out new cards each year.

The printable will come with three cards per sheet; make sure you print off enough rainbow game cards for everyone who will be playing.

Give each player a game card, a six-sided die, and something to mark off their cards.

When you say go, players have to roll the die as quickly as possible and mark off the color associated with the number they rolled. Continue rolling until they’ve rolled every single color.

For the odd number red space, players just need to roll any odd number, but they can only choose to cross off one color per roll. So if they rolled a five, they could choose to mark off the red space of purple but not both. If they roll something they’ve already crossed off, tough luck – keep rolling.

How to Win This Roll a Rainbow Game

First person to finish rolling all of the colors of the rainbow wins. Or if you’re playing with young kids and don’t want to deal with a winner/loser, anyone who finishes their card wins a prize! If you’re going this route, stick with some of the smaller prizes in my prize list below.

You can watch the video below (or in the sidebar if you’re on desktop) to see how the game is played!

Alternate Option:

We typically play that everyone goes as quickly as possible to complete their cards. If you want to make it last a bit longer, roll in rounds. Have everyone roll their die at the same time – cross off their color and hold their die until everyone is ready to go again.

This makes it more about luck and who gets the right numbers first rather than who goes the fastest.

This also can add to the suspense as people can pay attention to how other people are doing. It’s almost as suspenseful as waiting to bingo in this St. Patrick’s Day bingo game!

Rainbow Game Prize Options

I’ve included both some bigger prize options for if you’re only doing one winner as well as some smaller prize options for the everyone wins option! These rainbow donuts would also make a pretty great prize!

Larger Prize Options (one winner)

  • Rainbow Nerf football
  • Rainbow unicorn scrub
  • Rainbow water bottle (this keeps things cold forever!)
  • Rainbow scratch pad
  • Rainbow color changing pillow (my son loves ours!)
  • Homemade rainbow soap

Smaller Prize Options (everyone wins or multiple winners)

  • Rainbow slinkies
  • Rainbow putty/slime
  • Rainbow slap bracelets
  • Rainbow unicorn poop
  • Rainbow mini discs (frisbees)

I am not sure how I was lucky enough to find your site…but who cares, I did!!!
Love, love all your ideas. I use your games lots, have purchased some of your suggestions, i.e. rainbow dice, and I even take your games to restaurants, with adults and we play while we are having cocktails waiting for dinner. We have lots of fun and they love that I bring your games. When I forget they are disappointed!
