Take this camping scavenger hunt on your next camping trip for some family-friendly outdoor fun! Or use it at summer camp for a little friendly competition to see who can find everything on the list first!
Camping Fun
My family loves to get outside and while we may not be the biggest camping family, we really like the idea of camping. And we’ve tried out lots of these indoor camping ideas this summer!
And had a backyard campout at grandma’s house complete with a DIY s’mores bar, camping games, and a little round of camping charades around the firepit.
This camping scavenger hunt is the latest in our camping activities. Kids will love it because it gives them something different to do during a campout. Parents will love it because it keeps kids entertained and safe in a campsite.
And it’s free to print! Get it at the end of this post. And p.s., it’s also a pretty good camping packing list or things not to forget when you’re packing for your next camping trip!
Supplies
The best thing about this camping scavenger hunt is all you need is the hunt itself and a pen or pencil for people to mark things off as they find them.
If you want to do this every time you go camping, I recommend printing on cardstock and laminating then storing with your camping supplies!
How to Play
There are a couple of different ways you can use this scavenger hunt – all super easy! And if you need more scavenger hunts, here are over 25 different scavenger hunt ideas!
1- Individual Scavenger Hunt
This works best with a small group or an individual. Give them a copy of the scavenger hunt and a pen then send them on their way.
Their goal is to find all of the items on the list and mark them off. It’s more of an activity than a competitive game.
2 – Team Scavenger Hunt
This version works great if you’re camping with a large group or at something like a summer camp or if you’re looking for girls camp ideas.
Split your group into even teams. Give each team a scavenger hunt and a pen then send them on their way. Teams compete to be the first to find all of the items on the list and cross them off.
If you’re worried about teams cheating and just crossing things off they don’t find, send a phone or camera with each group to take a photo of each item they find.
Tip: You don’t really even need to check all of the photos when you get back – just act like you’re going to and you’re less likely to get people pretending they found items!
The first team to find all items and report back to whoever is in charge wins. I’ve included some simple prize ideas below that would work great if you’re doing this more competitive version.
Prizes
If you’re doing this as a team competition, here are some fun camping themed prize ideas that work well for groups!
- Homemade s’mores bars
- Mini flashlights

- Glowsticks
- S’more soap bars

Expert Tips
Use the scavenger hunt as a packing list or at least a reminder of a packing list. That way you’ll know that all of these things are at the campsite for sure!
Laminate the camping scavenger hunt then let kids use dry erase markers to cross things off!
Pair smaller kids with older ones or adults for the scavenger hunt if they’re not old enough to read.
