I was provided free products from Oriental Trading Company for this post. The ideas, opinions, and content are 100% my own.
Two years ago I hosted a New Year’s Eve Party with a bunch of our friends and to this day, it’s still one of my favorite parties I’ve hosted. Apparently other people agree because it’s also my most popular post ever. So this year I decided to host another party using similar concepts with all new New Year’s Eve Party games, updated for 2013. And don’t forget to check out my other New Year’s Eve Party Games and Ideas from 2011.

I kept the party food simple and ordered decorations and party supplies from Oriental Trading Company so I could focus my time on planning the games and prizes for the party (my favorite part). Here’s my inspiration for the party – black, gray, silver, and GLITTER!
I used all sorts of pattern and color combinations to create my party spread with simple snacks, desserts, and of course, sparkling cider in all flavors.
One of my favorite parts of my past New Year’s Eve Party was my countdown boxes so I decided to do them again this year. Each box is labeled with an hour and has a fun game/activity for the group to play at that time inside. I tried my best to keep the games simple so that it didn’t seem like we were just playing games ALL night long.
Before I get into what was in my countdown boxes, check out these cute “noon” party favor boxes I made for people to take home.
The idea is that they should open them the next day to continue celebrating 2014 in their homes. And inside, these great champagne bottle bubbles that I got from Oriental Trading Company. Aren’t they cute?
New Year’s Eve Party Games
Okay back to the party, here’s what is in my countdown boxes this year! The first box is the 9:00 PM box and inside is this fun pop culture 2013 matching game where everyone has to match a line of a song or a quote from a movie to the correct movie/song. You can make your own from your favorite movies/songs from 2013 or you can download a printable version of mine here. The person who gets the most answers correct wins a prize. And if you have a tie, ask the winners to guess how much one of the movies grossed total on opening night and whoever is closest without going over wins!
What Resolution Are You?
The 10:00 box was full of notecards with general New Year’s resolutions (lose weight, go to the gym more, run a marathon, sleep more, etc.) on them. I came up with general resolution ideas from this list. Each person was given a notecard (not allowed to look at it) and had someone else tape it to their back. Then everyone had to go around the room and ask questions to guess their resolution. The catch was that the questions could only be yes or no questions and you could only ask the same person one question before moving on to another person. The first three people to guess the resolutions on their cards win fun 2013 themed prizes.
The 11:00 box included another trivia game that asked people to put events from 2013 in the order that they happened. The person who has the most events in the correct order wins a prize. If you have a tie, ask the winners to guess the exact date of one of the events (one of the tough ones) and whoever is closest wins the prize. You can come up with your own current events or download my printable version here along with the answers.
And finally, the midnight box we opened about 15 minutes before midnight and it included all sorts of noisemakers, party hats, and other New Year’s Eve gear.
