Rice krispy treats are a classic for good reason – they’re pretty universally liked, they’re easy to make for a big group of people, and they’re easy to shape for all seasons and occasions. And they are my family’s go to treat for pretty much occasion.
We make rice krispy treats almost every time my family gets together, and that’s a lot. We’ve shared all sorts of rice krispy treats in the past from pumpkin pie Thanksgiving rice krispy treats for Thanksgiving to chocolate dipped rice krispy treats for Valentine’s Day! This fall version mimics the look of candy corn in just a few easy steps and makes a big impact on a fall party table while still being just as easy as the classic ones!
And since they’re just candy corn shaped, they’d work great for pretty much any fall party theme!

Ingredients
Ingredient notes & substitutions
- Marshmallows – you can use large in a pinch, but mini marshmallows really are the best for this. If you use large, you’ll need to cut them up and get the same amount as you would minis.
- Butter – salted or unsalted works, you really won’t taste much of a difference either way so just use what you have on hand.
- White chocolate – you can use almond bark, white chocolate, or even white candy melts for this. If you’re going to use white chocolate, make sure you get the higher quality chocolate that melts well (not just standard white chocolate chips).
- Orange food coloring – I’ve found that liquid food coloring works best for dyeing rice krispie treats, gel is thicker and tends to just be more of a mess.
- Yellow candy melts – you’ll want a yellow that closely matches the color of candy corn! You could technically also just add food coloring to more white chocolate if you can’t find the candy melts.
How to make candy corn rice krispie Treats
The hardest part about this recipe is the waiting in between steps for things to dry. Otherwise, this recipe is easy to follow and perfect for anyone old enough to use a stove.
I’ve included a basic outline below, make sure to read the full recipe card at the bottom of this post for all of the measurements and details!
1 – Make The orange marshmallow mixture
- Spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper (I prefer the parchment paper method personally).
- Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add 1 1/2 bags of the mini marshmallows into the pot, stirring until they’re melted together – all while keeping it on low!
- Remove the pot from the heat and add the vanilla, salt, and food coloring until you get the orange color you’re looking for.
Tip!
You’ll need more food coloring than you think because the cereal definitely steals the color once you mix the cereal in. Go darker so that it’s definitely visible when your rice krispie treats are done!
2 – Finish the Rice Krispie Treats
- Add roughly half the rice krispy cereal to the marshmallow mixture, making sure to scrape the bottom thoroughly – mix until that’s well combined.
- Add the rest of the marshmallows and rice cereal and mix again – these marshmallows won’t melt completely, they’ll be gooey and delicious!
- Press the treats gently into the prepared 9×13 pan – add oil to your hands to keep it from sticking!
- Let them cool for another 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cut into triangles. You can do this by hand or use a triangle/candy corn cookie cutter.
3 – make them candy corn rice krispies treats
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Melt the white chocolate either in the microwave or with a double boiler on the stove. Then dip the tips of each of the triangles into the melted white chocolate and set them on the parchment paper.
- Once the white chocolate has set, melt the yellow candy melts in the same way and dip the bottom of each of the candy corn treats in the yellow candy melt, then put back on the parchment paper.
- Let them set and your candy corn rice krispies treats are ready to enjoy!
Tip!
I always think that I can eyeball the amount of white and yellow that I need without having a candy corn nearby, and I always mess it up. It’s not 1/3 white, 1/3 orange, and 1/3 yellow. I highly recommend having some actual candy corn nearby to help you with the ratios! Or just keep this post open and use my pictures for reference!
Once the chocolate and candy melts have completely set, you can eat these right away or put them in an airtight container and enjoy within a couple of days. They’re perfect for making the night before a party – they’re still delicious for at least 2-3 days!
Helpful Tips
Remove the rice krispy treats from the baking dish with the parchment paper to make cutting them even easier!
Use a sharp knife (or cookie cutter) for easy cutting. That’ll give you the best chance of clean lines and the perfect candy corn shape.
Switch to a cookie sheet if you’re doubling or triple the recipe!
Store the treats in an airtight container for up to five days!
Recipe FAQs
Should you refrigerate Rice krispie treats?
There is no need to refrigerate these rice krispie treats. Putting them in the refrigerator will cause them to dry out, not what you want!
What if I accidentally added all the marshmallows at the beginning?
It’s totally fine – they’ll still taste good, they just won’t have the extra gooey marshmallow pockets that make these rice krispy treats the best.
Can I use marshmallow fluff instead of mini marshmallows?
Don’t try to use marshmallow fluff – it’s not just melted marshmallows, it’s a completely different product. If you have marshmallow fluff, try these s’mores cookies instead!
