My kids love Play-Doh. I don’t know what it is (I don’t personally love it) about it, but they love it.
Maybe it’s because they can create pretty much anything they can imagine. Maybe it’s because it comes in all sorts of different colors.
I’ve accepted that playdough is here to stay. I even made an edible playdough that’s taste safe in case kids decide to taste it (don’t encourage that though!).
And today I’m sharing the first in a big set of free printable playdough mats – some fall playdough mats that are perfect for a kids activity at any of your fall parties, a fall unit at school, or just some fall fun at home!
Combine these with this fall scavenger hunt, these fall games, and one of these fall art activities for an entire day full of fall activities!
How to use these playdough mats
If you’ve never used playdough mats before, the basic idea is that you give kids these mats along with various colors of playdough (I recommend colors in these fall color palettes) and they put the playdough on the mat to create the designs.
Normally you’d use these with preschoolers but I added some extra elements to these pages in case you want to use them with older children. They can design their fall object then write it out at the bottom (or just skip that part with younger children.
Each of the 12 designs comes in a black and white version and a color version. Feel free to use whichever one you want – I like to provide both so that if you think kids will need some guidelines on colors, they have them.
Tip!
If you won’t have a lot of colors of playdough available, I recommend just using the black and white versions. If kids see colors on the pictures that they don’t have available, it might be more stressful than fun.
How to Print these fall playdough mats
You can download the free printable playdough mats at the bottom of this post. This will give you a PDF you can use for printing.
If you think using playdough mats will be a regular occurrence, I recommend printing these on white card stock and then laminating so you can use them again and again.
Bring them out once at the beginning of the year then again as an activity for the kids Thanksgiving table! This could easily be one of the kids favorite Thanksgiving activites!
Tips & Tricks
Print out 2-3 of each design and laminate the pages. Pass out a couple of designs to each table of kids and let them choose which one they want to do. Then once they’re done, they can switch with others as their table or at other tables in the class.
Keep a healthy supply of various colors of playdough on hand. I like this bulk set that has a bunch of different colors, including some not so typical ones. That way kids can make things match the images that are in their head.
Store all of your playdough mats in a 3-ring binder with each season or topic in plastic page protectors. Then you can just get out all of the fall playdough mats at once, then the spring playdough mats next!
