Enjoy the wonders of Harry Potter right in your own home with these wizard inspired Harry Potter appetizers, snacks, and desserts. Book and movie lovers alike will find magical snacks and fun Harry Potter food ideas that will transport you to the wonderful world of wizards and have your taste buds thanking you.

collage of Harry potter food ideas

Take a food tour around Diagon Ally with these magical snacks. You’ll find drinks and hearty food from London’s oldest pub, the Leaky Cauldron as well as fare inspired by the Three Broomsticks, the trolly cart on Hogwarts Express, and of course Honeyduke’s.

Oh and don’t worry, you’ll find a few nods to Fred and George in there as well!

With this complete list, you’ll find everything you need to throw Harry the best party, have a fun movie night with fellow Potterheads, or simply enjoy some whimsical food.

So make up a few of these fun Harry Potter recipes, print out some of these Harry Potter trivia questions (or these Harry Potter would you rather questions), and get ready for the most magical night ever!

Savory Harry Potter Appetizers

Let’s kick off this list with hearty foods first and save the sweet stuff for later. Below you’ll find tasty appetizers that are perfect for any Harry Potter occasion – from shepherd’s pie to Sprout’s Garden to cleverly shaped cheeseballs.

pastry folded like an envelope with eyes and lips drawn on
Ham and Cheese Howlers
You might end up getting an earful about how clever these ham and cheese howlers are. Made with a few ingredients and clever use of edible markers, these are a great addition to the party.

Pretzel Broomsticks
I love how simple yet effective these cute broomstick snacks are. No need to spend hours prepping, these can be done in minutes and everyone will love them. Go above and beyond by serving them on a rectangular charcuterie board with golden snitches, bludgers, and hoops.

apple slices with peanut butter and almond slivers for teeth
Apple Mouths
This classic treat gives me Book of Monster vibes. I love how easy they are to make but without compromising on visuals. It’s also a great way to add something healthy to all the themed food.
Check it out!
tray of marbled dyed hard-boiled eggs
Dragon Eggs
Dragons play an important part in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, even if they don’t go around riding them every day. These dragon eggs are a great addition to your table, easy to make but look really cool!
Check it out!
pizza stuffed snake with multiple colored stripes
Slytherin Snake
Change up the colors to make it more Slytherin looking and this pizza-stuffed snake is perfect for a Harry Potter night. Cut this Slytherin snake into thin slices for everyone to enjoy! It’s kind of like pizza loaf but without the cheese oozing out!
Check it out!
veggie tray with label
Professor Sprout’s Garden
Love how easy it is to include a veggie tray with all of the other themed recipes. I’m sure that Professor Sprout’s garden would be a lot more elaborate than this but for muggles, it will have to do.
Check it out!
oranges with printable wings stuck in the sides
Orange Snitches
Great way to add a healthy snack that’s not overly complicated. Grab some oranges and cut out the free printable wings, then you’ve got cute little snitches.

cheeseball shaped like an owl
Owl Cheeseball
Love the idea of turning a cheeseball into an owl. Easily adapt it to look like your favorite winged companion.
Check it out!
mini shepherd's pie
Mini Shepherd’s Pie
Since Harry Potter was set in London, it’s safe to assume that the characters regularly ate British fare like shepherd’s pie. These make the perfect appetizer because they are individually portioned, no need to worry about cutting the right slices, just plate and serve.
Or make this shepherd’s pie for dinner if you don’t want to deal with the little ones!
Check it out!

Another British classic appetizer that makes a great addition to your Harry Potter party is sausage rolls. Easy to make, but taste delicious, these are a great savory option that will have everyone feeling like they are in the Great Hall.

Butterbeer Inspired Snacks

Butterbeer is a quintessential Harry Potter flavor. There are infinite ways to incorporate the delicious flavor into various Harry Potter food ideas, here are some of my favorites.

Butterbeer
The butterbeer at Universal Studios is one of my favorite treats at a park. This copycat recipe is as close as you can get to the real thing. A necessary addition to any type of party with Harry Potter fans.
Check it out!
Butterbeer Popcorn
There’s nothing better than a big bowl of popcorn while you are watching a movie on the couch, except for maybe an even bigger bowl of butterbeer popcorn on your lap while you settle into a Harry Potter movie night. Now, there really isn’t anything better than that.

You can’t go wrong with anything butterbeer. This flavorful drink is so good you won’t even care that you’re drinking something hot for Harry’s birthday in the middle of July. Butterbeer is not the only drink in the wizarding community. Here is is a whole list of potions, brews, and waters that the whole family can enjoy together.

glass of green punch
Polyjuice Potion
Polyjuice potion is one of the most rememberable potions in Harry Potter, which is why I had to include it on this list. Just remember to be careful which hair you add in, don’t want to be stuck like a cat for the night.
Check it out!
glass of herb and cucumber infused water
Gillyweed Water
A great way to enhance water for any party. It’s light a refreshing but looks like it came from the bottom of the Great Lake. Not to worry, you won’t grow gills and webbings when you drink, but it’ll taste a lot better than the gillyweed Harry had to eat for the Goblet of Fire.
Check it out!
Pumpkin Juice
This pumpkin juice recipe drink is made with apple cider, pumpkin puree, and brown sugar this drink is full of delicious fall flavors. There’s a reason it’s so popular with the characters, it’s delicious!

This dessert is a treat that everyone will love. Just make sure to add plenty of ice cream to your knickerbockers, wouldn’t want anyone throwing a fit over them like Dudley.
Check it out!
layered merengue cake with decorative flowers
Aunt Petunia’s Cake
I remember cringing while I watched this beautiful cake float across the room and land right on Mrs. Mason’s head. Maybe keep the house elves at home for this party, wouldn’t want them ruining another cake.

Check it out!
plate full of pecan clusters
Cockroach Clusters
A popular sweet snack among the students of Hogwarts, these cockroach clusters will be a favorite party food. The best part is these use pecans and dates instead of real cockroaches, although you could switch it out if you plan on playing truth or dare.
Check it out!
chocolate cupcakes decorated to look like a cauldron
Cauldron Cakes
There is a bit of debate as to what cauldron cakes look like, some are made with chocolate cake others are vanilla based. I love the look and flavors of this cauldron cake, after all, you can never go wrong with chocolate and marshmallow.
Don’t want to go with actual cupcakes? Make these cauldron cupcakes instead. They look like a potion gone wrong!
Check it out!
cupcakes topped with oreo crumbs and mandrakes from Harry Potter

Who can forget the fatal cry of mandrakes? While this cute cupcake version is far less dangerous, your sweet tooth will surely thank you. For a simpler version consider using brown marshmallows with some herbs on the top.

This is a bit of a stretch since technically it’s not a recipe but a craft, but since it can be filled with whatever snacks you want, I am adding it.
Check it out!
plate of chocolate fudge
Mrs. Weasley’s Fudge
You can’t forget to add Mrs. Weasley’s fudge to your spread. This delicious treat was one of the first gifts Harry ever received from Mrs Weasley. Just another reason to love Molly Weasley for being the best mother.
Check it out!
chocolate covered pretzels that resemble wands
Chocolate Pretzel Wands
Nothing gives off Wizarding World of Harry Potter vibes more than wands. These easy-to-replicate treats are the perfect addition to any Potter food table, not to mention that chocolate-covered pretzels are delicious.
Check it out!
Slice of treacle pie
Treacle Tart
You can’t have a Harry Potter birthday party without recreating his favorite dessert, a treacle tart. Made with a buttery crust and golden syrup it’s the perfect amount of caramelly goodness in tart form.
Check it out!
chocolate frogs
Chocolate Frogs
As one of Harry’s first experiences with magical goodies, these chocolate frogs are a must. Lucky for you, this tasty amphibian won’t come alive and climb out the window before you have a chance to enjoy it. You can find a free printable for the box here or you can order a pack of the original chocolate frogs to save you time.
Check it out!
