Easy Snack Mix for Halloween

I love a good snack mix for parties for a number of reasons. I’ve shared a bunch of different ones in the past including everything from the best homemade chex mix to a Christmas reindeer chow!

First, snack mixes are SO easy to make. You can literally throw them together in seconds. This Halloween snack mix is no different – it’s just mixing everything together!

Second, it’s simple to make festive variations of your favorite snack mixes. I already have a fall snack mix so for this Halloween one, I wanted to do something totally different from that! We tried to use Halloween colors, shapes (triangle witch hats, round pumpkins), and add-ins to make this as festive as can be!

Third, they last longer than most Halloween party snacks! You can make them once and use them all week long!

And finally, they’re super easy to make for a crowd. Need to double or triple this recipe? All you need is more ingredients and a bigger bowl!

Ingredient Notes

These are the ingredients that we used for this snack mix. We tried out a number of variations of snack items including different types of chex, different types of candy, and even adding sprinkles. This mix was the best we could come up with, and we hope you love it!

Mini marshmallows – these mini guys make the perfect little white ghosts! If you don’t have minis, I recommend leaving the marshmallows out instead of trying to cut up large marshmallows to make minis – you’ll end up with a sticky mess!

Pretzel rounds – if you have a hard time finding these, you can use Itty Bitty pretzels, too. Regular twists are a little too big, in my opinion, but they will work if necessary.

Unwrapped Reese’s mini – if you want to make this nut free you can use chocolate chips instead, but I really love the peanut butter with this!

M&Ms – if you want to mix it up, you can add any flavor M&Ms but Halloween ones are a great colorful addition!

Chocolate Chex – any Chex will work but the chocolate ones taste and look the best. If you can’t find chocolate or don’t want to use chocolate, Rice Chex work too – they’re just not as good!

Bugles – the original flavor is the best for this mix and reminded me of little witch hats!

Goldfish – I know Goldfish aren’t very festive for Halloween, but the cheesy flavor goes great with these! If you want to go really festive, you can do mini cheese balls (or mini Cheeto puffs) that look like pumpkins, but they go staler faster than Goldfish.

Candy eyes – while these are optional, it is a Halloween snack mix so I’d add them personally! It just makes it that much more fun! I like the smaller ones compared to larger candy eyes.

How to make

This is one of those recipes that can be written in one step, it’s that easy. It’s so simple to make the kids can do it without any chance of screwing this up!

1 – Mix ingredients

Add all of your ingredients into a big bowl – big enough that you can stir it together without everything fall out.

Just look how pretty the colors and shapes all look together in this fun Halloween mix!

Gently mix with your hands so nothing (aka the mini peanut butter cups and M&Ms) gets smashed.

Serve or cover with plastic wrap until ready to eat then serve in a large bowl or in individual containers. It would even be cute in little bags with one of these Halloween gift tags to give out as Halloween party favors or in a you’ve been booed bucket!

What to Serve with this Snack Mix

This Halloween snack mix goes with pretty much any Halloween party theme (and even any of these fun Halloween baby shower themes) but if you’re looking for some more easy Halloween party foods to serve with this snack mix, try one of these!

  • Halloween punch (or this Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin punch would be fun too)
  • Witch hat cookies
  • Halloween rice krispy treats
  • Ghost brownies
  • Halloween dirt cups

You could even serve it as part of a Halloween snack board or maybe even get away with adding it to Halloween charcuterie board if you put it in a bowl!

Expert Tips & Storage Information

Serve in Halloween cups for easy grabbing. This is great if you don’t want to worry about germs or you are bringing this to a classroom party.

Balance the sweetness with the salty. Unless you want to turn it into a candy salad, make sure you have enough salty snacks in your mix.

Store in an airtight container on the counter until the mix starts to get stale, typically about a week.

Recipe FAQs

Can I add other ingredients?

Absolutely! You can add other fun Halloween ingredients too – just remember to keep a healthy balance between sweet and salty so it’s not too overpowering one way or the other!

How do I make this nut free?

The Reese cups have peanut butter, but they can easily be substituted for something else like chocolate chips or omitted altogether.
