Being a new mom is tough. So is being a new dad. With an 8-month old, Richie and I rarely have any time to ourselves, especially since K didn’t start going to bed before 10PM until about a month ago. And then Daylight Savings Time hit, we went on a trip for Thanksgiving, and we all got sick. Needless to say Richie and I are in serious need of a date night, just the two of us. I’m not ready to leave K with anyone outside of family yet so I decided to surprise Richie with a fun football (he LOVES football) themed date night in.
I’ve been spending a lot of time on my blog lately so I decided to go all out on this date night. I started it out with a fun little football trivia game that incorporated one of our favorite things to do when we go out – sugar packet paper football.
To play the game, I asked Richie football themed trivia questions that I found here and for each question he got right, he could move the paper football 10 yards on this cute football field I drew on a piece of green paper.
And as he moved down the playing field he was able to win prizes that corresponded with big victories in a football game – first down, field goal, and finally, touchdown. Getting to the first down was simple, which was really good because first down was dinner, and we were both starving. I made sliders and parsnip fries that I got delivered from Plated and fancied them up with some washi tape, baking cups, striped straws, and these free football party printables I made.
After dinner the trivia questions got a little tougher and it took a couple of questions to get into field goal range (30 yard line). By the time he scored a field goal, we were both ready for a break – a football movie and plenty of football themed snacks like popcorn, jerky, buffalo wing flavored nuts, sports drinks, and of course Cowboy cookies.
I packaged the cowboy cookies in some cute star treat bags that I just happened to have. Did I mention he’s a Dallas Cowboys fan?
After the movie we played some more until he reached the end zone and won his touchdown basket, complete with candles, kisses, and K-Y Yours and Mine. It was the perfect way to end the night and a really fun, and much needed, date night.
Want to have your own football date night? It’s simple using the free football printables below. Just print out the free printables, write your trivia questions, create a football field game board, and put together your prizes. And if you want to include K-Y Yours and Mine in your touchdown basket like I did, now is the perfect time to buy it from Walmart because it actually comes with a free #KYDateNight package – a code for two free meals from Plated and a free movie from VUDU. Easy right? Or if you’re not up for a date night, the printables would also be perfect for a tailgate party, super bowl party, or even just a way to make watching Sunday night football a little more fun.
