One of our favorite things to do during the summer and fall is to go camping but with a toddler at home, camping has become more challenging! It’s always on the top of our summer bucket list!
These camping themed party ideas give you the best of camping right in your very own backyard! So whether you’re looking for camping birthday party ideas or camp themed ideas for any other occasion, this guide has everything you need!
I’ve split this guide into three different sections – food, things to do, and decorations and party favors. It’s literally everything you need for the ultimate camp themed party!

NOTE: I use the term party loosely. All of these ideas work well whether you just want to have a fun themed family night, a big blowout summer party, or a super small group gathering with just a few friends. The ideas can all be used with whatever level of get together you’re most comfortable with!
Camping Themed Party Food
One of my favorite parts about camping is the food. Unfortunately a lot of actual camping food items (e.g., tinfoil dinners) likely aren’t going to be possible at your camping birthday party. So instead, these are all delicious camping themed party food ideas – so ideas that incorporate the camping themed in a fun way!
By the end, you’re going to be craving s’more camping food guaranteed!
S’mores Bars
Is it really camping if it doesn’t include s’mores? These s’mores bars make s’mores even better with graham crackers, peanut butter cups, and lots of ooey gooey marshmallows!
If you don’t want s’mores bars, how about making these delicious oven baked cookie s’mores?? They’re super easy to make, absolutely delicious, and great for any camping themed party!
You’ve never had puppy chow like this before! People will keep asking for s’more and s’more of this delicious camping themed snack! Plus, it’s super easy to make for a crowd!
While these may not taste like a campfire, they sure look like one! You could really make any of your favorite cupcakes (I prefer these hot chocolate cupcakes”) then just use this decorating technique to make your campfire on top.
Is there anything better than cooking on a hot dog on a stick over a campfire? If that’s not an option for your backyard campout, try this yummy camp hot dog recipe instead!
While you may not be able to do full tin foil dinners on a campfire, these bacon ranch tin foil grilled potatoes are the next best thing! Plus, they’re super easy to grill up for a large group of people!
Camping has its own set of activities that are super unique to camping! While many of those activities may not be possible for your celebration, you can still have a ton of fun with these camping games and other things to do! You may not even miss the campfire at all!
Camping Games
Ten of the best games to play while you’re camping OR when you’re having a camp themed party! All of these games will make you feel like you’ve having a real campout, not just a party!
Setup a station with a bunch of candy and these printable instructions to let people make candy campfires! Not only does it teach them about how to build a campfire, it’s a yummy treat to enjoy too!
Split into teams and play a hilarious game of camping charades where teams have to act out and guess camping themed words! Or make it even more challenging by trying out any of these other charades games using the camp words!
Hide things around the party that are camp themed either in the decorations or even just in the yard! Then send kids and adults on a fun camping scavenger hunt to see how many they can find!
This nature scavenger hunt is a great alternative to the camping scavenger hunt above if you don’t want to hide things OR if you’re doing more of a nature themed, then straight camp themed, birthday party! Kids will love going on a walk through the woods to see what they can find!
Break out the squirt guns and use them to see who can shoot cups the farthest, the fastest! It’s a great camping themed activity for the entire family!
Create a maze out of string in your backyard and see who can get through it the fastest! It’s one of our favorite camping activities and would work perfectly at an outdoor party!
