June Party Ideas

Honestly the only holidays I really knew about were Father’s Day and Juneteenth but there are so many more! These June party ideas include things you can do with people already in your house, ideas to invite friends over, and ideas to get out of your house with people you love!

And like I always say, you don’t need a reason to invite people over – these just give you something to center the gathering around if you want it. Or just use them to be a fun mom every once in a while!

You don’t have to celebrate all of these. Pick one or a couple that fit your people and your schedule and let the rest be there for next year or when you need a quick activity to do with your kids!

June 1 – National Game Show Day

If you’ve been part of our community for long, you’ll know that we love game shows around here! You can either go the less exciting option and just watch game shows together OR you can host your own at home game show with friends – that’s way more fun!

If you want to host a game show night, I have everything you need to do that depending on the game you want to play:

  • Minute to win it games – over 100 different games to choose from
  • The Floor – yes, we made all the slideshows so you can just download and play!
  • Christmas Price is right – switch out the Christmas items for summer items!
  • Let’s Make a Deal – this one is always a hit!
  • Deal or No Deal – switch the eggs out for boxes or cases!
  • Halloween Jeopardy – just call it Summerween Jeopardy instead!
  • Thanksgiving Family Feud – just call it Summergiving Family Feud instead!

June 2 – National Rocky Road Day

Rocky Road is my personal favorite flavor of ice cream, so I had to include this one as part of my celebrations!

Do an ice cream hop and visit a few sports to find the best rocky road in town. Or stay home and make a bunch of rocky road treats like this rocky road fudge to start. Or setup an ice cream sundae bar so people can make their own variations of rocky road!

Want to get out of the house? Grab a few pints of rocky road ice cream, add these just because tags, and take them to a friend or two!

June 3 – World Bicycle Day AND Global Running Day

I thought these two went well together so you get options for both!

Add some songs to your running playlist (or books from this reading list to your audio book library) and go for a run somewhere new. Or take a bike ride to a park with a picnic to eat once you get to your destination!

If you’re feeling motivated, you could even just use this day to sign up for a bike or running race with a friend. Everything is always better with a friend!

Or meet a friend to run somewhere or to take a spin class together. There are so many ways to enjoy the best of both worlds.

June 4 – National Cheese Day

We’re a bit obsessed with cheese around here, so I’m all for celebrating National Cheese Day!

Take a charcuterie class to get better at building cheese boards or host a craft night where everyone paints and decorates their own boards to use all summer long! Or if you’re rather keep it low key, build a summer charcuterie board and invite friends over for snacks and yaps.

You could also do a full cheese themed dinner with the fam. Think cheese pizza (this homemade pizza dough is amazing), homemade mac and cheese, and a watermelon salad with goat cheese on top!

Or host a girls night where all you do is eat your favorite snacks and watch cheesy rom-coms all night. No one said National Cheese Day had to be the edible kind of cheese!

June 5 – National Donut Day

Do-nut miss National Donut Day, it’s an excuse to eat donuts after all! Go on a donut crawl around your city with a group of friends to figure out who actually has the best donuts!

Or have everyone bring their favorite to share and vote on which ones are the best from the comfort of home. You could even use any of these donut party ideas to sweeten things up a bit!

Feeling ambitious? Make these rainbow donuts together, they’re a fun one to make with the kiddos!

June 6 – International Tabletop Games Day

This is basically a holiday made for my family and if you like games, yours!

Meet friends at a board game cafe for games and good company or host a game night at home with your go-to favorites. If you need some fresh picks, these are my favorite board games for large groups, board games for game night, and board games for kids!

Or if you really want to go big, have a board game family Olympics where everyone chooses their favorite game (keep them shortish). Track the winner of each game and whoever wins the most is the game night champion!

June 7 – Tony Awards

You don’t have to be a theater kid to make this one fun! And even if you’re not going to watch the actual awards, you can still celebrate just for fun.

Throw a Tony Awards party with themed snacks like corn puddin’ (or this cornbread, it’s kind of close), cake (this chocolate cake would be perfect), and disco ball cookies. Watch the show together and hand out a prize to whoever guesses the most winners correctly because a little friendly betting always makes awards shows better!

You could also do a musical movie marathon and watch the shows inspired by this year’s nominees like Titanic, The Lost Boys, and Schmigadoon. If you want some games to go with it, these musical party games at my favorite!

June 8 – World Oceans Day

This is actually one of my favorite things to celebrate with my kids because they’re obsessed with sea animals!

Head to a local aquarium and try to find a sea animal you’ve never seen before. It’s typically a fun one for the kids and an a low effort win for mom!

Or throw an ocean themed party with mermaid punch, water games, and beach crafts like this ocean sensory bin. You could even setup a little beach scavenger hunt with the ocean being a backyard kiddie pool!

Or of course go to the actual beach. Or do an ocean themed movie night where you watch something like Jaws for the adults (with shark attack drinks of course) or Finding Nemo, Shark Tale, or Splash with a beach cake for dessert.

June 9 – National Meal Prep Day

Prep some meals for the summer, even better if you get together with friends and do it all together! Or make some meals for a friend who could use a little help – think people going through major life changes like babies, deaths, job changes, and more.

These all work great for summer meal prep:

  • Homemade taco meat – this warms up great and can be used in tacos, burritos, nachos, and more!
  • Creamy pesto pasta – make a big batch of the pesto together, then you just have to add pasta!
  • Easy baked ziti – you can make the entire thing, freeze, and then just reheat!
  • Coconut chicken tenders – make, bread, and bake. Then freeze and just reheat when you’re ready to eat!
  • Chicken tacos – make a bunch of meat, store, and then pull out what you want to add to dinner!

June 10 – National Frosted Cookie Day

Is there anything better than frosted cookies? Try this cream cheese sugar cookie recipe for cookies you can cut out and decorate together, they’re perfect every time! Or if you want simpler, these frosted sugar cookie bars are great too!

Don’t want to make your own cookies? Meet some friends for a cookie decorating class where they teach you the art of flooding and decorating cookies.

Or go for a cookie crawl with your kids. You absolutely have to know which local cookie place has the best frosted cookies!

June 11 – World Cup Begins

With Kansas City being one of the major host cities, you know we have a ton of World Cup centered things our summer bucket list this year. Our city is full of watch parties, soccer themed events, and more to get in on the World Cup craze!

But you don’t have to be in a host city to still enjoy all the fun going on! Soccer fan or not, the World Cup is really just a great excuse to get people together.

Host an outdoor watch party so people can play and watch the teams play at the same time. Set out some of these giant outdoor games so there’s something to do between goals or if you’re really wanting to embrace the soccer, try some of these games with balls like soccer croquet!

Keep the food easy by serving up things like this pesto orzo salad and a tropical fruit salad with balled melons. Or you could go more themed and make something like ham and cheese empanadas for the Argentina game and red white and blue strawberries for a USA game!

June 12 – National Movie Night

It’s literally movie night, so embrace it with movies! Host an outdoor movie night with cozy seating and consession stands. A nice outdoor entertaining space makes the whole thing feel special with very little effort.

Or do a movie themed party where each course matches the movie. Think homemade spaghetti meat sauce for Lady and the Tramp and frozen butterbeer for Harry Potter.

You can also just go see an actual movie of course. There are plenty of fun new releases coming out this summer or go to one of the cheap summer features like AMC’s summer movie camp.

June 13 – Celebrate National Candy Month

June is National Candy month and June 13th seemed like as good of a day as any to celebrate! This one’s pretty easy – just make it all about candy!

Invite friends over and have them bring a bag of candy to make candy. Or invite them over to try making homemade candies like homemade Twix Bars, homemade Nestle Crunch, or even homemade taffy!

Or get out of the house and go buy candy from a local candy store, general store, or other place that has a really cool selection. Try out different things than you’re used to for a really fun activity!

Or play any of our favorite birthday party games that incorporate candy like the candy bar game, right left center with candy, and more!

June 14 – National Children’s Day

It’s a day to celebrate the kids, which also sounds like a great excuse for everyone to act like a child!

Have a childhood games day and play the games you grew up playing like flashlight tag, sardines, and ghosts in the graveyard! You could even just start at night and play night games instead of playing during the day!

Or do a let the kids choose day and let them run the show, within reason of course. They choose the food (even if you’re eating Chick-Fil-A chicken nuggets all day), activities, and more.

Or maybe my favorite of the ideas, host a family playdate where you invite families over with kids that like your kids and adults that you like. Setup some outdoor games and let the kids all play together while you get to spend time with adults. This one’s a win for everyone!

June 15 – National Photography Day

I’m always saying I need to get in the pictures more so if you’re anything like me, add this day to your list of must celebrates this month!

Grab your phone and do a photo scavenger hunt with this summer scavenger hunt as your prompts! Or explore somewhere new in the city and hunt for cool photo spots you’ve never noticed, even better if you invite some new friends and make a day of it.

Or go all out and meet up with people to take fun photos together. You could make it themed where you meet at a thrift store and all choose photo outfits for each other or everyone has to wear a themed costume or outfit based on a theme!

June 16 – National Fudge Day

This one could go two ways. First, fudge that you eat. Make sugar cookie fudge and enjoy it together. Or go find somewhere that sells fudge, get a bunch, and share it with friends.

Or this could be the fudge that you read. Spend the day reading the Fudge books by Judy Blume then doing silly things inspired by the book. If you need ideas, here’s a great list of reading activities to get you starter!

June 17 – National Eat Your Vegetables Day

There’s an entire dedicated to encourage people to eat their veggies because so many of us don’t want to do it. I know my kids don’t. So why not make it something fun this month instead?

Try out a new vegetarian restaurant nearby with friends. Or have everyone come over with favorite veggie recipe (I personally love these balsamic honey brussel sprouts) to try and share. Summer is a great time to try out fresh veggies so embrace it!

You could even do a cookbook club that uses a veggie cookbook like this and all try a recipe out of it!

collage of images showing veggie recipes

June 18 – International Picnic Day

It’s days like these that make me want to put something on the calendar because what better day for a summer picnic than International Picnic Day?

Meet up with friends a potluck picnic where everyone brings something to share. Less work for you, more variety for everyone. I recommend this Greek tortellini pasta salad that’s super easy to make and travels well!

Or have a picnic dinner on the floor at home. It sounds simple, but my kids think it’s the greatest thing ever especially when I do something fun like make a picnic charcuterie board or even order pizza.

Or get even more creative – head to the store and let everyone pick out something for the picnic with one catch, everything has to fit into the picnic basket. So either you need a big picnic basket or people need to pick wisely.

June 19 – Toy Story 5 Release

Somehow Toy Story has managed to make all of their sequels just as good as the original and I’m hoping Toy Story 5 is no exception. Celebrate the release with a Toy Story movie night where you watch the movies, play some of these Toy Story games, and maybe even pick out a new toy friend to enjoy during the movie!

Or just celebrate by going to the movie together. I know my family will be!

It’s also Juneteenth and a perfect time to head to a local festival or celebration celebrating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. I know in Kansas City there is a big heritage festival downtown with lots of planned celebrations and ways to learn about the history.

Make your own Toy Story Midway Mania games at home with this fun outdoor games tutorial! With everything from a homemade balloon darts to a punch box, so many fun ideas!

June 20 – National Ice Cream Soda Day

I don’t know if my kids have ever had an ice cream before, which feels like a tragedy I need to right this year on National Ice Cream Soda Day. Not sure which one of these we’ll do, but they all sound fun to me!

Set up an ice cream soda bar in your backyard and let everyone build their own floats like a Shirley Temple float. Or make it a bring your soda night where you provide the ice cream and everyone brings a unique flavor of soda to try out, just make sure it’s not something gross like pickle soda!

Or meet friends at a local soda shop or anywhere that has fun ice cream soda options. Try to think beyond the basic root beer float!

June 21 – National Yard Games Day

I have to mention that June 21st is also Father’s Day so definitely don’t forget to celebrate all the dads (this all about dad sheet is perfect for it) as well, but I love yard games so much I had to include that in my list!

Run a yard games competition and keep score with the winner taking home their very own yard game as a prize. You might be surprised by how competitive people get!

Or go eat somewhere local that has yard games to play outside, even better if it’s dad’s choice since it is Father’s Day after all!

You could also host a girls night where the craft is making DIY yard games together. Think painting rock tic tac toe, making your own DIY ring toss game, or decorating a set of giant Jenga.

June 22 – Summerween

I love that Summerween is a thing because I love Halloween even more when you can enjoy all the fun outside!

Have a Summerween movie night with pumpkin soda floats, jack-o-melons, and creepy crawly popcorn mix. This movie night snack mix would be perfect with a few creepy mix-ins.

You could also play Halloween games with a summer twist like any of our tournament of terror games that are best played outdoors! This Halloween punch game would also be great! Or get messy and make a Halloween dirt and worms graveyard cake with an ice cream cake as the base.

Want to get out of the house? Summerween is the perfect day to check out a local ghost tour or somewhere that’s supposedly haunted!

June 23 – Pink Flamingo Day

After our most recent trip to Anna Maria Island, I’m a bit obsessed with pink flamingos. My family actually calls them penguins because of an inside joke with my sister-in-law but that’s beside the point.

This is still a fun day to celebrate the bright pink things. Grab some pink flamingo lawn ornaments and surprise a friend with some new lawn decorations.

Head to the zoo to see flamingos or go see them in the wild if they’re nearby. You could also do some sort of flamingo craft or really just anything pink!

June 24 – International Fairy Day

June really is full of some of the most magical and whimsical days all day and International Fairy Day is no exception.

Make cute fairy gardens together using things you collect on a nature scavenger hunt. You could even make up stories about what the fairies are doing in their homes.

Or spend the day reading books and watching movies about fairies (or fae for you adults) for a cozy, low-pressure way to celebrate.

Or put it all together with a whole magical fairy picnic complete with the fairy gardens, making Australian fairy bread, and watching a fairy movie to celebrate. I know a few kids around here who would be in heaven with a day full of fairies!

stack of fairy bread with a purple background

June 25 – National Day of Joy

If you celebrate no other days this month, celebrate this month and celebrate it in one way – do things that bring you joy. That’s it, just find some joy on this day.

June 26 – National Food Truck Day

I love a good food truck. There’s just something about the fresh to order and made in this tiny little kitchen that gets me every time.

Celebrate by meeting up with friends somewhere that has a bunch of food trucks to try out. Or just follow one of your favorites and go wherever they’re popping up this day.

June 27 – Great American Campout

June is National Camping month so you really can celebrate these all month long but June 27th is the Great American Campout so if you need one day to celebrate camping, this is a good one.

Go camping somewhere or stay at home and camp in your backyard. Don’t want to sleep outside, have an indoor campout instead. I have a whole list of fun indoor campout ideas for exactly this.

Or use one of these camping party ideas to host a camp themed party complete with a s’mores board to make their own s’mores or s’mores bars you make ahead of time. You can play camping games like camping charades, send kids on a camping scavenger hunt, and just have a good time without actually camping.

six picture collage of camping party ideas

June 28 – Happy Heart Hugs Day

I’d never heard of this one before but when I looked it up, this was inspired by a French bulldog to celebrate long-distance love. I think French bulldogs are so cute, so added this one to my list!

I mean we all could use a little more happy in our lives so why not celebrate this day by sending a friend a care package, inviting friends over to write letters to loved ones, or even just sending messages to people you haven’t seen or talked to in a while.

June 29 – Wimbledon Begins

If you’re into tennis, this one’s for you. I’ve included things for baseball, golf (in my days in May post), and now soccer so only fair to include one of the biggest tennis events of the year!

Invite friends over to watch some matches of your favorites or just invite friends to go play tennis together inspired by Wimbledon beginning.

Or you could use it as a theme for a movie night and watch movies like Wimbledon, Battle of the Sexes, or King Richard.

June 30 – Legally Blond Movie Night

With the release of the new TV show Elle on July 1st, June 30th is the perfect night to invite the girls over to rewatch the Legally Blond movies to get ready for the reboot!

You can use a lot of these Barbie party ideas (same color scheme as Elle), do your nails, drink pink punch, and eat pink raspberry poke cake for the ultimate movie night!
